Launch Night Housemates- What makes a succesful bunch?

So- Launch begins tuesday at 9 and I think the initial housemates are always the most important, it can be the difference between a viewer tuning in every night or turning off because they simply aren't that interesting...

Where Big Brother can go wrong...

... is too much of the same- BB12 had fourteen housemates all of a similiar age but all of similiar personalities, there were no stand-out characters from the bunch and consisted really of what we'd all seen before- the series really needed somone different to spice it all up but we simply weren't getting that from the original set of housemates and later on only 'Jem' was added who was another similar bore.

...is oddballs, I don't care what you say but 'normal people' are sometimes boring and the class off 2009's BB10 provided some amazing characters on launch such as Marcus, Sree, Freddie and Noirin- they entertained throughout the whole series and was interesting seeing the diverse backgrounds and personalities mix throughout the series.

So- I ask you now- what makes a succesful bunch of initial housemates on launch night?

Housemates along the lines of BB7 and BB10 will keep me hooked.

BB10's cast was amazing. I remember that launch night I was impressed housemate after housemate.

BB7 and BB6 also had genius casts. When selecting housemates the only criteria they need is: diversity and freaks. Simple.

Variety, no media trained hms.

They all have be different, with a few similar ones who have something which would make them clash with the other.

BB7 was great for this i.e. Nikki and Aisleyne, both models, socialites, whatever but under the surface they were miles apart.

When picking housemates they should put them all up on a wall and draw lines to those who'll class and those who'll match, the set with the most is the final lineup!

BB7 had one of the worst casts ever. I have no idea what you people see in it.

BB5's cast however... even the bore [Shell] was more entertaining than most housemates nowadays.

A mixture of BB10's housemate and BB6's housemates would be amazing.

I thought BB10's were awful. A complete abortion of a series. No wonder C4 pulled the plug.

Other than that disaster, BB4's were far too nice and the all-female launch in BB8 alienated too many viewers.

BB3, 5 & 6 had a good 1st night vibe. The golden years.

It's impossible to tell on C5 as they don't show anything of the housemates together on launch night. They really are clueless.

BB10 was a golden series imo. So much more simplistic than other years, the housemate variety made it great.

I wasn't a fan of BB10 but I liked the fact there was a lot of housemates who entered on BB10 launch night. They had an epic first week so then I hope with 16 housemates going in on Tuesday for BB13 there will be plenty of fireworks.

I really want to see Oddball characters. TOTAL NUTTERS. Normal people are boring.. take a look at BB11. They wanted Normal and it was dull.

If we have "normal" people I want extroverts! I don't want to see ANYONE from Essex or Chelsea. Errrrrr :yuk:

A mixed bag of people like BB9 and from different ages too. NO ONE GENERIC.

The only generic person we should have is an OTT gay guy. The OTT gay guys tend to do well.

NO MODELS PLEASE and... NO ONE SHOULD KNOW EACH OTHER.

(I have a feeling we will get a couple going in again though like Lisa and Mario or maybe even another set of twins! mmmmm.....)

I ALWAYS watch the launch and think that I'm not going to get into the series. Always. So for me, cast doesnt matter at all..as we have had some amazing housemates over the years. I'm just not that interested until we get to know a few of them properly...as I know 9 times out of 10 the VTs and stuff are pure bullsh*t :)

I always taught BB7 had an exaggerated group of housemates... They were entertaining but mainly because they were mentally ill and searching for fame.

Kizzy 03-06-2012 12:02 PM

Well seeing as they are having a psychological perspective show, that could mean the housemates have been chosen specifically for their personalities rather than age or looks this year?
As long as they are not just ex stage school cretins i'm fine :)

BigBrotherfan4ever 03-06-2012 12:05 PM

I would like to mixture of BB9 & BB7 HM's, i think they were two great years in terms of great HM's.

Marcus. 03-06-2012 12:48 PM

I liked BB10 and BB11 Housemates.

Housemates like BB10's. Saffia, Sophia, Cairon, Sree, Karly, Kenneth, Sophie, Rodrigo, Charlie, Marcus.. ALL OF THEM ENTERTAINED! Even Hira, with the cake and the dance. (except for Tom and Beinazir) - there was so much culture and diversity this year.

Housemates like BB7's. We need bitches like Aisleyne and Grace.

Housemates like BB8's. Only Chanelle and Charley, really.

We don't need:

Housemates like BB4's. They were all way to nice.

Housemates like BB11's. They tried to get normal people, but it failed.

Housemates like BB12's. The absolutely ****e series.

Few oldies, gameplayers, bitches, crazies, lookers and outcasts.

iRyan 04-06-2012 02:50 AM

Normal people are boring, and that was the downfall of BB11 and BB12.

The more diverse the better. That's what made the casts of BB6 and BB10 so amazing to me. They were a very wide range of characters. And also, the most nutjobs the better. You can't just put one in. You need at least 3 or 4.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 04-06-2012 02:52 AM

nothing will ever beat BB6 launch night

Ironically, BB7 was an amazing series but there were some pretty dull and irrelevant housemates you are right. It's truly Nikki that made that series (coupled with Grace, Shahbaz, and Aisleyne).
