No slight on the women but why the **** is there a big celebration about her when she has done jack ****e for anyone in matter of fact she should be throwing a party for myself and every other taxpayer as we pay for her to go round giving the occasional wave to everyone

It's a celebration of the United Kingdom for most people, the Queen is just a part of it.

Chewy that is perfectly fine but why is the whole attention on her when she does nothing more than i do for the people of the country

I am sure the untold numbers of people who have been celebrating the occasion all around the world would not agree with you. Although some of the funding does come from the tax payer, not all of it actually does. For instance the 10.5 million used for the flotilla yesterday came from privately donated funds, and I am sure it will have a lasting memory for those who took part in the celebrations. She does far more than give the occasional wave.

She can blink and breath at the same time, for a start.

I'm Irish and I've had a ball with the jubilee. I sat with a mate all day yesterday going through cans doing a running commentary of the boat stuff on Sky News.

And yes I wish I was English. I love England. It's ... measurably better than Ireland.

Still know one has told me what she actually does so for that reason i stand by what i said about her throwing a party for my fellow taxpayers that allow her to wave

I would term myself as a Monarchist, I appreciate it may appear the Queen does little but in reality she at 86, does some very punishing schedules,the extensive travelling is often a major chore for people far younger than she is.
She is, as well as the Monarch,in my view a great ambassador for the UK, a representative of some stability and continuity when lots of other things are changing and not all for the better.

She is only likely the 3rd Monarch to reign for 60 years and although I have to admit I do find some of the over the top celebrations a little nauseating at times, overall I feel really glad this jubilee of a Monarch reigning for 60 years has occurred, a piece of history being made in my lifetime that I have been able to see.

I also wouldn't bet against her making 70 years as Queen either.

I'm no Royalist but get an education before criticising anything. They are given what is technically an "allowance" for their trips in keeping relations with other countries. But the money they pay back into government outweighs the money paid to them. Today, for a lot of people, was a celebration of Great Britain with the Queen as a sort of Ambassador for that. 60 years is a great feat.

Who said it's hard for them? I mentioned how they actually EARN money for the country. You're talking about them taking from the tax payer without mentioning the profits they give back in return.

There is an argument against having a Royal Family, but yours isn't the one. Like I said upthread, actually seek out information about what you're talking about otherwise you just come across as silly and uneducated.

In fact you sound like you're not old enough to actually contribute to the taxes you're whinging about.

It isn't so much important as to what she does but what she stands for. the history of the Country, her very presence somewhere or at an organised event has people charging all over and coming from all over the World just to be part of it, that brings in funds for retail businesses.

On her travels worldwide,her status increases, more often than not, the standing of the UK and also the image of the UK to other Nations.

It is though that in the UK we have a role for ahead of State,who is the seal on all Parliamentary bills,she has a job to do and a duty to perform that fully which she has done with unshaken devotion to that duty.

She also as I said above, also stands for continuity,representing a form of stability in that continuity in the duties she performs.
It is not about what she 'does' in the main but more as to what she 'is'. I for one am glad we have a Monarch and especially one like the current Queen.

Although the Queen is no longer responsible for governing the country, she carries out a great many important tasks on behalf of the nation.


As Head of State, the Queen goes on official State visits abroad. She also invites other world leaders to come to the United Kingdom. During their visit, Heads of State usually stay at Buckingham Palace, or sometimes at Windsor Castle or Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

The Queen is also the Head of the Armed Forces. She is the only person who can declare when the country is at war and when war is over, although she must take advice from her government first.

The Queen is Head of the Church of England.
The Queen appoints archbishops and bishops on the advice of the Prime Minister.
The spiritual leader of the Church of England is the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Every day 'red boxes' are delivered to the Queen's desk full of documents and reports from the government ministers and Commonwealth officials. They must all be read and, if necessary, signed by the Queen.


The Queen represents the nation at times of great celebration or sorrow. One example of this is Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph monument in Whitehall. The Queen lays a wreath there each year to honour the members of the armed forces who have died fighting for their country.

At least three Royal Garden Parties are held at Buckingham Palace each year and about 8,000 guests attend each one.

Alongside her other duties the Queen spends a huge amount of time travelling around the country visiting hospitals, schools, factories and other places and organisations.
