While it does suck not having live feed....

I'm sure we've all watched or rewatched a series before without live feed, correct?

Many of us hadn't seen seasons like BB2, BB3, BB5, BB6, etc. when they originally aired - but we still managed to watch and thoroughly enjoy them without a live feed.

I mean, i've watched BB5, BB6, BB7, BB8, BB9, and BB10 all without a live feed. And while it would have been amazing to have watched them while they aired with the live feed and everything - not having one never stopped me from enjoying and being engaged on the show.

Just something to think about. I know it's hard for us to think about getting to know the characters without having a feed to watch 24/7, but i'm sure with most of you there has to be at least one series you watched after it had already aired that you still enjoyed. Just try to think of this in the same way.

And no I havnt I couldnt get into a series thats already aired done and dusted. I like being part of the process as it happens.

Stu 06-06-2012 06:37 PM

Watching a series after it's already aired isn't really a good comparison at all though, is it?

Kizzy 06-06-2012 06:38 PM

me too, I have watched fight night and nasty alex being removed on YT though.

That's different.

Here's the thing - when watching BB5 [which I did watch originally but I was like 8. So I rewatched it in 2010] - It was so good.

So when I felt like I needed another 'fix from the house' right away, I would just go and watch another highlight show, and another and another because it was brilliant.

Here? We aren't getting a fix like that. We need to wait. That's the thing, it's funny actually and I'm being deadly serious here, I rewatched BB3 last April with a few people on here, THAT felt more 'current' as if it were happening 'right now' than BB13 does.

It just does not feel like Big Brother is back, at all.

I think that's right.

If you compare Big Brother to the other reality TV series that made it big in America (The Amazing Race and Survivor) the thing that sets Big Brother apart (and potentially makes it the best) is that it is a live event. That also means there is more than one show a week as well. And of course versions outside of America can have some kind of show every day.

I did recently look through (and enjoyed) Celeb Hijack but that was only a 3 week or so event. The bigger event is helped even more by having the buzz the around it, forums, videos, news stories and of course live stream.

Well, i'm basically saying that it is possible to thoroughly enjoy Big Brother without having a corresponding live feed.

Jack_ 06-06-2012 06:56 PM

Yeah Patrick's right. When you watch old series back you can watch them when you want, back to back if you wish.

We don't have that now. C5's attitude literally is 'you'll get what you're given' and 'we'll decide when to give you live feed, instead of realising that actually, it's a fundamental, core element to the entire format and something which every Big Brother around the world has. Having to wait a whole day between highlights shows with pathetic two minute clips is just not good enough. That's the bottom line of it. It's impossible to get as 'into' the show without the feed. It just becomes, as has been said many times - another TV show.

Eh, good point.

I did enjoy BB12, but I had no choice with that series other than to not watch. At least with every previous series on C4/E4, there was a bit of afternoon and always late night live feed at the very least and BB10 had some amazing moments late night live. No one is forced to watch live feed and some may have no interest, but the choice to watch it when you want should always be there.

Anyone who has watched hours and hours of live feed from a series that they enjoyed greatly, knows there is nothing quite like it, BB6 most of all.

I've never watched a series after it was originally aired..I tend to like the thrill of knowing everyone else is watching at the same time as me

starry 06-06-2012 07:28 PM

The waiting process is a frustration. Even though I've grown to like The Amazing Race this year, I find it a frustrating process watching it when it is first shown as you have to wait a week for the next episode. So if gives you little to talk of but speculate or (for some people) find spoilers.

With Big Brother it isn't quite so bad as you have to wait a day, but as it's a live event and you know something is happening all the time but you only have a few clues as to what is happening. And Big Brother is all in the details of what people do and what they say and what happens to them. To miss out the details means you miss out the full story.

I've re-watched a series after it's aired. But enjoying that isn't a comparison because I already know all the characters from watching it the first time with the live feed. I've never watched a series for the first time via youtube or anything. I missed out a lot of BB12 when I got bored of it and have no interest in going back to watch it now as it's irrelevant.

Yes it adds to the magic and how could I possibly keep looking at the latest bookies odds for the housemates?:joker:

What the **** happened with the Hunger Games ****...

The Hunger Games had live feed 24/7 haha
And you could go to ANY cam in the forest lol

swinearefine 06-06-2012 07:57 PM

I watched BB1-BB10 with no live feed but it was good to know that there was a LF, because it meant that I could believe what I was watching. They couldn't over-edit and manipulate the viewers as much as they can now.

Joe. 06-06-2012 07:58 PM

Got really bored today inbetween and during maths revision and thought if we had live feed I'd just be sat here all day watching it- so it's to my benefit that we don't really...
