Apple WWDC 2012: Official discussion thread

Discuss all the announcements (and the pre-show rumours) here.... keep it all in one thread since mods aren't blessing us with a section dedicated to technology (or more importantly, Apple)

Rumored/Obviously going to be announced:
  • iOS 6
  • Mac OS X Mountain Lion
  • Airplay in OS X Mountain Lion
  • MacBook Air-like MacBook Pros
  • Complete notebook refresh
  • Re-appearence of a disc-driveless 'MacBook'
  • New iCloud apps and capabilities
  • VERY long shot (not going to happen) New iPhone
  • (Probably not this time, but later this year, unfortunately) iPad mini
  • Ditching Google, launch of own Mapping services with 3D capabilities. (With acquisition of Placebace, etc)

I use the website appleinsider.com which is quite reliable and informative, which is where most of those rumours have been found.

ANNOUNCEMENTS TO START AT 6PM GMT ON MONDAY 11TH JUNE.

-Isn't sure if there are many Apple fans on here-

:D

Apparent links to developer builds of iOS 6 and Safari 6 have been leaked, interestingly showing a lack of support for the original iPad. Support also appears to have been dropped for the 3rd gen iPod touch.

Surprised they're supposedly dropping the orignal iPad so soon. They're still supporting the iPhone 3GS for god sake!

Saving for a Macbook Pro atm, so definitely looking forward to this.

Ryan. 10-06-2012 10:04 PM

Yea I don't think they will drop the iPad, it is significantly more powerful than the 3GS so if they do drop it then it's not a technology issue :P

The new Pro is so pretty I want that retina display so bad sdfkhj

Sawyer 11-06-2012 05:34 PM

I know.. there's no way I'd be allowed to get it though. I only for this one just over a year ago. Plus I've got car insurance -_-

Sawyer 11-06-2012 05:41 PM

Wait.. has this new pro got a disc drive?

Niall 11-06-2012 05:42 PM

I'm seriously thinking of saving up and getting one. I have a MacBook atm, but its 2 years old and its slowing down a fair bit.

Niall 11-06-2012 05:43 PM

I just saw the price. Maybe not then. http://www.spillitnow.com/images/smiles/scared.gif

I'm sure they'll keep the same £999 entry point. Would be silly if they didn't. But then, they've made the Air more like the old MacBook in terms of an entry level notebook, dont you think?

CharlieO 11-06-2012 05:45 PM

Urgh why did I have to get my pro like a year and half ago.

Sawyer 11-06-2012 05:46 PM

I know that feeling. Got mine last February... every time you buy one you think 'this is exactly what I want, I'm happy with it, whatever they bring out I won't want'... DAMN YOU APPLE, DAMN YOU.

and plus mine got replaced in november because it was breaking but not unusable. Why didn't I just live with a broken laptop until now and then get a new one for replacement. :bawling:

To be honest, there wasn't really a need for them. They dropped the price of the air, which is now probably on par or over the capabilities of the last MacBook. So the Air is basically now their entry level, basic 'MacBook'... back when they had the aluminum MacBook there lines between the pro and MacBook where really blurred. (Wish they'd put the same black bezel on the air though, that would look pretty darn sexy.)

True. It would be nice if they offered a little more variety though. I've never liked the Air really. :suspect:

All I care about right now really is the new iPhone. I'm 90% sure they won't announce it today but I still wish they would. I just want to know what they have up their sleeve.

Also, if iPad Siri isn't made available for second generation iPads then ima be so pissed omg. :bored:

I agree with you on the Siri thing... but we all know that will be only on the third gen. I WANT TO TALK TO MY iPAD! -its my only friend-
