Tyrannosaur (2011 film)

Anyone seen this? British film from Paddy Considine (This is England, Dead Man's Shoes) starring Olivia Colman (Peep Show, Rev, Green Wing - although this is incredibly uncomedic). It's won a BAFTA, Sundance awards, been heaped loads of praise by Mark Kermode and 82% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Quote:

Joseph, an unemployed widower, plagued by violence and a rage that is driving him to self-destruction, undergoes a life change after killing his dog in a fit of rage. Desperate to change his ways and get out of his unpleasant past and surroundings, he earns a chance of redemption when by chance he becomes close to local charity shop worker Hannah, a respectable wholesome and kindly Christian woman who takes pity on him, and they become close friends. However Hannah has a dark secret of her own which threatens to plunge Joseph back into his former life
It's really bleak and powerful.

If you see him kill his dog then I'm out

King Gizzard 26-06-2012 02:04 AM

Hmm..does it leave you depressed or..

Shaun 26-06-2012 02:15 AM

I'm only halfway through

and basically he kicks the dog twice and it dies later on... it's not too brutal, but it's still pretty nasty.

that was horrible
i want to curl up and die
i need to find something cheerful on iplayer
no joy was in that movie
but at the same time it's incredible

think Gran Torino without the revenge

Jords 26-06-2012 06:41 PM

How odd somebody just posted a status on FB saying to watch this.

Smithy 26-06-2012 06:43 PM

Thought it was gonna be about dinosaurs

Shaun 26-06-2012 06:58 PM

I suppose you were similarly disappointed by Dances With Wolves, The Silence of the Lambs and Goldfinger :idc:

I think I could handle this after My Sisters Keeper ripped my heart out on Sunday -downloads-

Saw this about a month ago, easily one of the best British films I've ever seen. Paddy Considine is brilliant, can't wait to see what he ends up doing next.

Olivia Colman in this though was just incredible.

Fetch The Bolt Cutters 12-07-2012 11:40 PM

ok so i watched this last night/this morning AND IT JUST WASNT THAT GOOD IM SORRY

also it didnt even make sense
Spoiler:

if the dog ripped the kids face off why was the dog just left :conf2:

like surely the police would intervene and have the dog put to sleep or something

so yeah that was ****ing stupid

olivia colman though omg

goddess

rating: 6/10
highlights: every second olivia is on screen

Shaun 12-07-2012 11:42 PM

yeah I agreed about that plothole, I found it a bit weird that nothing happened :conf2:

but the acting of the main two characters >>>>>>> the flaws
and yeah, Olivia Colman  I only watched this because I know of her through Peep Show, Rev, Twenty Twelve, Green Wing etc. and I saw she'd won loads of critics awards for this film... it was v. different. She's so lovely <3

A friendship which blossoms between an aggressive, jobless drunk and a woman suffering domestic abuse at the hands of her swine of a husband :/

There are quite a few hard hitting/disturbia.g scenes
