different behaviour of nationalities?

ok lets see if we can tiptoe this topic without offending or breaking any rules of political correctness.

my general impression is the scots and welsh contestants have over the 13 years been more naive, less edgy, but sort of nice(cameron, glyn, mikey, helen, gareth thomas etc though federico was brewing up but left early) .....the irish contestants have been mostly living to the stereotypes of up for the craic but changeable under the influence(spider, connor, brian etc)....the norherners seem to have been generally chatty charming yet often argumentative, the southerners generally straight talking black humoured sometimes brutal.....go on then tell me how wrong it is to generalize?

sarakss 28-06-2012 01:28 AM

I don't think you're that wrong to generalize because it's very common to do that all over the place.

I'm in the US and live in Chicago, and I can say people in different parts of the country are perceived differently. Having been to Hawaii a few times, I have to learn to let my guard down because people are generally nicer and more welcoming. Not saying that there are a lot of bad people in Chicago or there are not bad people in Hawaii, but people from different areas behave differently - especially when you compare those from large cities versus small towns.

Usually their is a small bit of truth in most stereotypes/generalizations. Do I play hockey and love maple syrup? Absolutely. ;)

cfromhx02 28-06-2012 01:42 AM

You just don't generalize full stop. Not saying you were being racist. And don't accuse me of political correctness.

There is usually nothing wrong with political correctness. It is just about principles and manners.

But like I said generalizing isn't right full stop.

Generalizing saying everyone of a nationality is on average the same is racism.

It may be that the tiny percentage of a particular nationality that has been on BB may appear to all behave in a certain way, though I bet they don't, there will be personal differences, but generally people are individuals and don't all behave in exactly the same way although there are many that do copy too much about each other and that's why it's not just a made up reason as to why they are called sheep.

Jords 28-06-2012 01:43 AM

I honestly dont pay much attention to nationalities and race.

Glad to hear it Jords and you're probably well enough educated to realize that nationalism is a divide and conquer tactic by the super rich

And you'll realize that people are individuals.

How come so many believe that nationalism is that important when it's obvious we have more in comm on with each other worldwide than these national boundaries that are imposed on us

Ramsay 28-06-2012 02:15 AM

who's spider?

Kate! 28-06-2012 02:33 AM

Irish dj - housemate in BB7 Karl. Spider was one of the housemates next door who Aisleyne had to choiae from to become proper hms. He was evicted in a double with Michael, another of the newbies.

Jords 28-06-2012 02:37 AM

youre making the fatal mistake of exaggerating the other persons opinion to make your argument appear wholly correct...no one ever said everyone of a nationality is on average the same.....we are not even speculating we are stating a general opinion on behavioural patterns , based on the hms over the years. yes everyones an individual of course. but economics and cultures help create different environments which also influence behaviours and aspirations etc ask billy connolly if the glasgow dockyards influenced the man he became, of course it did.

different areas have different cultures and provide different lifestyles and opportunities. I think you wholly and arrogantly dismiss national cultures and environments far far too easily as a vital component in some of the behaviour attitude and personalities of hm's....its not the be all and end all but it is a factor that exists

I couldn't agree more! :amazed: Not to forget Rachel in BB9 and Luke A this series who are also both Welsh. In addition, Imogen was really sweet in her time in the house as well. Oh and Ian too from CBB5!

I've always thought in general that the Welsh are more reserved and polite than the English - sorry if I offend anyone here. It's just I think the Welsh are more quiet and we smile more. :)

Nationalities other thab ours and the states tend to have more morals

Niamh. 28-06-2012 09:49 AM

I don't think the Irish contestants were that similar to each other really though, they could do with sending in Irish (Republic) contestants from somewhere other than Dublin though

Livia 28-06-2012 10:02 AM

Having travelled a bit, and lived and worked in different countries, I have to say that people are pretty much people wherever you go. You get your share of morons and really nice people in equal measures. I don't think holding up BB housemates as displaying good examples of a nationality's traits is going to work, frankly.

haha, absolutely not, generally speaking HMs are a bit out there, that's how they got on the show

rinkydinkpanther 28-06-2012 01:43 PM

its probably easier to spot a pattern or correlation of behaviour in a smaller area or country such as wales or take cornwall as an example or a city like manchester i mean come on theyre all clones of the happy mondayz
