Is voting taboo?
 

I've noticed a lot of people who're reluctant to disclose their political inclinations. I was just wondering if TiBBers are private about who they've voted for, and if so, why?

I'd imagine there's probably some who're embarrassed since the party they voted for turned out to betray their promises and so on.

It just seems to me that there's an unspoken politeness amongst the British that says it's impolite to ask someone who they voted for.

I've voted many times before and don't mind telling people what my political inclinations are.

Voted Labour at the last elections and will vote Labour at the next.

I guess it's generally considered a private thing, unless someone told me I probably wouldn't presume to ask who they voted for, I don't think that's something unique to Britain though. I don't vote anyway, too cynical :idc:

I've just never got involved in politics really, it depresses me quite a bit thinking about it, how no party will ever be ideal etc

I just vote Labour because my local MP (up until he was replaced by some Tory douche who lives ages away from the constiuancy) was great

and I don't really get why it's made out to be so important to vote, some even saying it should be compulsary..like ''if you don't vote then don't complain''.. Well, I would of thought if you don't vote at all you have fair dibs at complaining because you haven't taken a political side

Im to young to vote but i'd vote for The Green Party as that's where all the resistence is going to to stop the three main parties, afterall can The Green Party be any worse?:joker:

I'm a member of the SNP and vote for them (obviously)

I don't find it polite not to let your political opinions be known, but I do refrain form arguing about it (religion too)

When I vote I wouldn't care who knew. I don't understand why people don't like to say. Its odd. I know who I'll be voting for when I get the chance anyway: the Greens. :spin2:

Big fan of the Green Party because they want to legalise weed.

My first vote I had was in the 2010 general election, I trusted and voted for the Liberal Democrats after near being stalked by their candidates and canvassers as a student,but will likely not vote for them again for decades after they betrayed the trust I put in them not for joining a coalition with the Conservatives,I had no problem with that but for how a compromise of policy can be, that you warn people that tuition fees will be at least doubled if the Conservatives got an overall majority and the Lib Dem policy was to get rid of tuition fees, then they supported trebling them.
That is the strangest and poorest compromise I have likely come across.

My politics would likely be more to the centre, slightly to the left of centre.I can see good things in all parties and believe in concensus politics,I just wish politicians would put their heads to together rather than waste their talents on divisions.

Last year I voted Conservative in the local elections in my area to unseat the Lib Dem councillor,I will wait to see what the manifesto's contain in 2015 before I decide who to support, I have hated the top to bottom ,across the board reforming of the NHS.also as to the welfare and benefit reforms and cuts too,which I think needs doing, I think these have been badly thought out by this Govt. and I almost see it as a sledgehammer being taken to the weakest,poorest and most vulnerable of society.

Where my vote goes next time in the general election will be between Labour and Conservative,if the Conservatives have more NHS changes and more severe welfare cuts then my vote will be lost to them, Labour however have to shape up massively too and show they intend to help people that really need it and not do what they did in their 13 years as to widening the gap between the wealthy and the poor rather than reducing it.
The only party who now has no chance of my vote are the Liberal Democrats.

If I lived and could vote in Scotland I would be a supporter of the SNP, I think Alex Salmond has done a good job as First Minister and agree with near all their policies.
My choice would be so easy if I lived there,

I always vote and I have no problem telling people who I voted for, If I was embarrassed about it, surely on some level I'm not proud or happy with my decision

That's a good point, but there again there are going to be some voters on some level that are not that proud or happy with their decision, but decide to vote for the party they believe to be the lesser of the evils, so are ashamed to admit to the party they voted for for that reason.

Not really, I know tonnes of people who voted when they were students.

I did know that but I was solidly against the increasing of tuition fees, Libe Dem canvassers and candidates,one of whom had a meeting with me and 6 other students with me, went on and on about how Labour had no hope of winning the election,which was obvious anyway, however should the Conservatives get an overall majority they would at least double tuition fees,they 'promised' never to vote for the doubling of tuition fees in a hung parliament, (other than for the tuition fees increase,I likely would have voted Conservative).

I/we trusted the Lib Dems on that, I guess they didn't though in fact support doubling them, they actually supported trebling them.
I will be very wary of ever trusting them again that's for sure.In fact I don't even listen to the Lib Dems any more now.
