Austrian police captured 9.5 tonnes of garlic after five Romanians were pulled over on the motorway near the Hungarian border. Three lorries were overloaded with fresh garlic, valued at €30,000 (£23,967). The men, aged 25 to 37, could not say where the garlic had come from and were subsequently charged with transporting stolen goods. The three drivers were also charged with transporting an 80% excess load. A police officer told the Austria Press Agency: "For that amount of garlic, the men would have needed nine small lorries, not three." The garlic has since been confiscated. |
