The transition from primary to secondary school
 

How did you feel about it?

From being the king of the jungle to being the bottom of the totem pole!

(heard this on R2 this morning)

Hmm well at the time I couldnt wait to leave primary school then after I did leave I missed how much more laid back and easy it used to be, it was a bit weird as well because I went from a tiny primary school (only had about 40 or 50 people in total) to a pretty big secondary school, although I knew a lot if people going there so it wasn't that bad, the novelty of it all wore off quite quickly though

And yeah going from being top dog to just another little year 7 who were easy targets was a bit annoying too, although it was never really that much of a problem

I was in the first year that skipped middle school. Was quite weird.

It was a shock! Little things though that really sort of freaked us all out, like how you had to take your bag everywhere with you and you had HOMEWORK! In Primary School we had pegs to put our bags on and did no homework whatsoever.

I loved both schools though, wish I could go back. Best time of my life.

I help out with it and it is great meeting new people.

Though it was very different me in transition, I was petrified.

I didn't think of it as overwhelming as such. Just do your homework more and make new friends was my motto. I've also been in a Sports Specialist school since Year 7 (September 2005), which is good.

The transition from secondary school and sixth form is far more overwhelming...in my opinion.

I can't really remember so it can't have been that bad. We were kept seperate from the rest of the school for weeks anway so we had time to settle in.

I loved leaving primary school. I didn't have many friends in primary and I remember just feeling miserable most of the time. Literally every year I was there I made friends with someone who left shortly afterwards. I'd say I had 5 friends in primary school and no more than 3 at a time. 3 of those left and 1 of those started trying to pick on me towards the end (I wouldn't say I felt bullied though, I just didn't respond to it and he wasn't very good at it :laugh: but y'know, that sucked) - so when it came to going to secondary school, I chose to go to a school that barely anyone I went to primary with was going to and made completely new friends. I loved secondary. It was weird being at the bottom of the pile again though!

I was only one of 5 to go to the secondary i went to from my primary..
I do not speak to anyone from my primary anymore
I settled in very well ,and year 7 was delightful
Year 8 i was very ill, and was off for a lot of the year, in hospital and that, so year 8 was a suckish year
But year 9-11 were amazing, and i cried when i left a few weeks ago:bawling:

I was really upset because my best friend was moving away and being sent to boarding school, I begged my mom to send me to boarding school too but she wouldn't :laugh: I was fine after I settled in though

I didn't like it personally. I was split up from all of my friends from primary school, they were all in classes together and I had to make all new friends. I gradually got used to it and the fact that I couldn't be in the same classes as my friends from primary but I remember finding it really tough at first. It just felt like a huge leap, primary to high school and I don't think we were given enough preparation.

I can't really remember it much but I know I didn't particularly like the adjustment of it all

Well for me it wasn't too hard. I'd moved from a primary school with 300 kids, to a primary with 65 in Year 5. And moving to Year 7 was easy cause it was 300 kids in our school.

Year 7 i was put with 6 of my Primary year so i was fine. I remember getting the first lot of homework and thinking "And you expect this done in a week? :idc:"

I'm in in my final year now :amazed:

Same, but we were asked at my school to fill in two names of who we'd like to be in a class with at secondary and they passed them on. Pretty much everyone but me got who they asked for and I was put in with two butch sisters :bored:

I have to say it was one of the most traumatic times in my life. I know that sounds melodramatic but it's true. I had an idyllic childhood at primary school, and when I left I also left all my friends - most of whom were boys - and went to a girls' school where I knew no one, everyone else in my class had friends from their old school. I was an odd kid anyway, a bit bookish and, well, frankly weird and you know how that can be in a class full of kids, especially girls. And what singled me out more was that when they had assembly or anything with even a mild religious connotation, I had to wait outside. I hated secondary school; I keep in touch with no one from then and have no wish to see any of them ever again. On the plus side, it made me concentrate on my studies and I did better than anyone in my year… that went down well.

Seems even back then you were intelligent, lol.

When I was at school there was

Primary school year 1-4 5-9 y/o

Middle school year 5-8 9-13 y/o

Highschool year 9-11 13-16 y/o

Thought it was great, can remember our year going to war with the year 11's on the first day, attacking eachother with cartons
