Child Safety: Always be aware.

I just received a text from my son's school to advise all parents to warn their children and to be extra vigilant. Apparently there have been a few incidents of men trying to tempt pupils into cars, my lad is very sensible and everything but I have literally gone cold inside.

I will certainly discuss it with him. It's such a horrible world today.

scott why :bored:

there's always old people who walk up and down the hill my school is on they're like "oops I thought this was a public footpath" but you just know they're waiting to attack. It's scary. Horrible world we live in.

I went into a strangers car when walking home from school once and they just took me home... either there are good people nowadays or they decided I'm not pretty enough [/reallypoortaste]

We had a case of some guy attempting to pick up teenage girls from a local secondary school, but I think he was arrested.

A while back on one of the external Facebook video chat sites that had men exposing themselves to children online. It was discovered by one of the schools in the area. You can never be to careful these days and you have educate them to the risks of everything. Even things that seem innocent where they chat to their mates online. In the end I banned the DNS entry for the site on the computers in the house by redirecting it to another site.

This stuff has always happened, except in the past, it will have gone unreported/unpunished.

I agree and a lot of it was hidden, you just have to look at the scandal of child abuse in the Catholic Church that is still making the headlines, but I don't think it has ever been so easy as it is today. But saying that it easier to report too if you educate children to the risks and what to do about.

But are there not Cameras on the Road near the School?
I mean why have they not picked up these men?

This has gone on Forever , like 100 years back.

So No its not a Horrible World Today.
Today for kids it better as they are more protected.

Kate you are bringing your son up right
do not let a letter destroy your life.

Its horrible to think it happens. I remember there was a peado scare at my primary school, strange man lurking about. Not sure anything happened though or what the actually story about him was.

Redway 11-07-2012 05:38 AM

I agree it's a bad world but it's always been like this, as noted. If anything it used to be a lot worse.

What was the need applying futile attemps of comedy to a serious issue? Why do you always have to try and be funny?

Black Dagger 11-07-2012 03:17 PM

We had 'scares' every other week in primary school, the cupboard was filled with be careful letters.

Horrible society at times.
