I think calling Lauren a "wooden spoon" or "spoon" is a way of dehumanising her. In a way it makes it easier to be mean and bitchy about her, because she is being thought of as an inanimate object.

Becky's a fat lardy spoon anyways.

Other names have been used to describe other HMs in there
