Samsung Galaxy Ace (anyone have it?)

I'm thinking of getting a new phone for Christmas since I've had a Samsung Tocco Lite for 3 years now. I don't want anything too OTT and expensive so Blackberries, iPhones and the like are out of the question :p

I just want something functionable, quite nice to look at and able to take decent quality photos... it has a 5MP camera and I'd get a memory card with it so it's not really storage I'm worried about.

But yeah it's £130 and I was wondering if anyone could recommend it/dissuade me from it

Munchkins 14-08-2012 06:33 PM

Omg the tocco lite, i used to have it :amazed:
then i got my iphone, which is good but meh
Have you read reviews on the phone :)? it looks a good enough one

Shaun 14-08-2012 06:36 PM

yeah pretty much 5 stars across the board, battery life's the lowest category (4) but the tocco's fine for that

I'd say get it then :D, good price too!

Brilliant phone. My aunt has one and I can't find a fault with it really. It works just as well and it's a decent price.

I think my friend has it, is it the giant one.

I have the Galaxy SII and really like it. I think Samsung phones are generally very good on functionality and apps etc, but I suppose it depends on how you use it. They are normally great for music, gaming, internet etc so I think it should be quite good for you. 5 megapixel camera is ample. There are not a whole load out there with better quality cameras, but newer ones are only around 8mp. I would say it was a good buy for the price, and they normally have quite fast running systems. Battery life is always going to be an issue anyway if you use music/internet/gaming a lot anyway.

Overall it's a fairly stylish 3.5" touchscreen android with wifi capability so I can't see many bad points to it.

The Google Play store also has loads of free apps. Also I am sure it is compatible with the BBCi player etc.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and I love it, the only negative thing I have to say about it is that the battery doesn't last long. But other than that it's awesome, I would totally recommend it :amazed:

Shaun 14-08-2012 08:06 PM

awesome, thanks for the advice guys

Marc 14-08-2012 08:08 PM

I heard it's the worst phone ever made.

Shaun 14-08-2012 08:10 PM

it wouldn't have your number, Marc, that's impossible

Mrluvaluva 14-08-2012 08:13 PM

The only thing is, the way phone technology develops, by Christmas time there will most probably be something better on the market at that price.

Anyway Marc, I don't think it runs on the gingerbread system.

Shaun 14-08-2012 08:31 PM

yeah probably  I'm really not fussed about having the latest model... I just want to change because the memory on the Tocco Lite is really bad.

Ninastar 14-08-2012 08:35 PM

apparently the battery life is really bad.

someone at work said that they can charge the phone all night but it will be red by the time they have lunch the next day

but then again everyone at work is ott and I hate them all so who knows how true it is

Shaun 14-08-2012 08:39 PM

I don't really use apps and stuff that often tbh, just Facebook sometimes if I'm on the bus.

Mrluvaluva 14-08-2012 08:41 PM

If you use a phone for the odd phone call, texting, and a bit of music etc, they are normally fine. If you sit there for hours watching TV and listening to music whilst playing games and browsing the internet then it's bound to affect battery life. I don't know what some people expect?

Sorry I couldn't resist.

Samsung have these daft names for their operating systems now. When I got my phone, it ran on gingerbread. This has now been updated to ics (ice cream sandwich) and the latest version is jellybean. Lol

Jordan. 14-08-2012 08:55 PM

I have one, got it after a tocco lite as well :amazed:

The most annoying thing I'd say is if you're planning on using it for music it doesn't recognise M4A files so all your songs will be under 'unknown artist' & 'unknown album'. Oh and like mentioned the battery is tragic, you'll probably need to charge it everyday. Otherwise it's a great for everything else

Can you not rename them on that model? I tend to put my music files by artist, album and song title on my pc before I transfer them to my phone. I hate unruly music files! They all have to have the correct photos too. I get a bit ocd when it comes to things like that.

No it drove me mad

I found an app in the end (mediafix) that sorts them but then I had to download another app to get the correct artworks again http://www.gifmix.net/smiley.php?ima...smilies/29.gif

I downloaded a free one from the google play store called, quite originally, "cover art downloader". It's really good. It even finds quite obscure ones.

One of my friends has one and he loves it, the speaker is really loud and the cameras good.

Jake. 14-08-2012 10:02 PM

Was going to get it today, got the HTC Mozart instead, never had heard of it before, 100 quid, 8 mega pixle camera and hd video, a windows phone. Was a steal really, and the last in the shop!

BB_Fan2012 15-08-2012 08:51 AM

iPhone ftw ;)
