The Valleys (New show similar to Jersey & Geordie Shore)

Fresh from the success of Geordie Shore - MTV UK’s biggest ever show which was filmed in the city of Newcastle - MTV will be heading deep into the South Wales Valleys to find a group of young people from areas such as Tonyrefail and Tonypandy to feature in its next non-scripted show.

Plucked from the tranquillity of Valley life, the cast will be given the opportunity to leave their hamlet towns and change their lives in the city of Cardiff.

Over a 6 week period, audiences will watch as the youngsters balance new job opportunities in a brand new city.

However, despite their new lifestyles, ‘home’ is never far away as the cast will return to The Valleys throughout the series to visit their families and home towns – a stark contrast between the lives they’ve left behind and the new lives they are beginning.

One is a law student who can always be seen carrying a chihuahua under her arm. Another claims to be the Beyonce of the Valleys.

One has nicknames for each breast and another thinks he is the "Jean Claude Van Damme of the Valleys".

This is the cast of the latest reality show to hit our screens. Aspiring models, wannabe film stars and prospective TV presenters are among contestants for The Valleys.

The cast list, revealed by broadcaster MTV today, features two mentors along with nine contestants “plucked from the tranquillity of Valley life” in their South Wales “hamlet towns”.

The six-week non-scripted series follows participants as they move to live and work in Cardiff and follows reality shows The Only Way is Essex, Geordie Shore and Made in Chelsea in charting the daily lives of "ordinary people".

The Valleys will not cast South Wales in a bad light, say stars

Housemates in the show, which is due to air later this year, include 21-year-old law graduate Jenna Jonathan from Tonyrefail, who had breast implants as an 18th birthday present, and 25-year-old bricklayer Darren Chidgey, of Bridgend, who has set his sights on a career as a male model.

Labourer Leeroy Reed, 21, wants to become an urban music hit, while teenage kick-boxing fanatic Aron Williams wants to become “the Welsh Jean Claude Van Damme”.

Is The Valleys' Anna Kelle the world's sexiest photograher?

Call centre senior manager Carley Belmonte, from Caerphilly, wants to become a TV presenter, while accounts administrator Lateysha Grace pledged in her audition to be “the Beyonce of the Valleys”.

Rugby fan Liam Powell wants to make it as an international DJ – though the 26-year-old said he didn’t go on the show to become famous.

Natalee Harris, 23, hopes to fulfil her dream of becoming a model, while teenage hairdresser Nicole Morris, from Swansea, would “love to be famous” and is looking for a celebrity boyfriend.

Their progress will be presided over by two mentors – 31-year-old glamour model and photographer Anna Kelle, known as AK, and nightclub promoter Jordan Reed, 28.

Rhondda MP Chris Bryant has described the show as “hideously patronising”. But its producer has hailed the area as a “brilliant setting for a constructed reality show”.

MTV has begun filming with True North Productions for the series, which is set to air in September.

Let's face it, it can't be much worse than Geordie Shore. Can it?

There's a bit of variety in this bunch compared to all the other reality shows.

When is it supposed to be on?

I've never watched either Geordie or Jersey Shore, so I might give this a go.

That creature at the front of the pic looks psychotic btw. Wouldn't want to meet it in a dark alley

Let me guess, there'll be a news story about Welsh people complaining that they are nothing like that, like all the other shows

I might watch this though
