The tweet, which has since been deleted, has been met by shocked disbelief and mockery by the online community with one user, Ben Lawton, tweeting: "Has Danny Dyer really referred to the 9/11 suicide bombers as 'slags' on Twitter?"

User Nat Higton added: "Anniversary of 9/11. Or as Danny Dyer puts it 'when those slags flew that plane into the twin towers'. Lovely chap."

While many were shocked by the nature of the tweet, others simply mocked it, like user Declan Welsh: "I want Danny Dyer to go to the middle east and film a documentary entitled: 'Democracy; you ****ing love it you slags'."

Danny Dyer comes from my neck of the woods. I can honestly, hand on heart say, that no one ever talks like he does unless they are a complete and utter prick or if they are taking the piss. Danny Dyer is the former... in case anyone in the world was in any doubt.

God its not as if he called them 'legends' or anything like that. I had to lol, if i'm completely honest.

I do think he's funny

but this is insensitive and makes him look like an idiot
