Do You See the Funny Side of Things?

One of the things I like best about myself and love about others is the ability to see the funny side of things.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a very empathatic person and am very sensitive to others feelings but I do manage to see the funny side of dire situations.

A programme I watched last night made me think about this... don't know if anybody else has been watching it but its on BBC3 and called "Let me Entertain You" and is about a group of tourettes sufferers who have been brought together through their love of music and are forming a musical group... I hosnestly think Tourettes is one of the worst afflictions I can imagine having and I would hate any of my kids to have it, but I laughed so much last night at some of those peoples tics, that I couldn't breathe any more! :/

Does this make me a bad person??

No Lee, it doesn't make you a bad person and you couldn't be a bad person anyway from what I have read as to you from your posts on here.

I can find humour in things others don't,I have friends and Cousins who laugh at funerals for instance too.
Not out of disrespect but they cannot control it.

Yeah, I think laughter at a funeral is down to nervous tension to be honest! My friend had a laughing fit at her Grandad's funeral.. she is the type wholaughs at everything and I actually have only ever seen her cry once. I cant remember what set her off but she was hysterical... ended up bawling her eyes out though :(

Ach! I cant see who has voted what in my poll. Can I change it?

There was this show on 4 a while back about people with disabilities dating, I was cracking up  no, it doesn't make you a bad person lee

I've got a dark sense of humour, so I can find some pretty serious subjects funny.

I don't laugh at people with speech impediments, but I don't think it makes you a bad person if you do.

Nah, I don't think I'd laugh at anybody with a speech impediment either tbh... unless it was one of those that makes people whistle when they talk

Sometimes the funniest things in life are of the black humour variety - half the time it's what keeps us sane!

Kizzy 19-09-2012 09:19 AM

I put yes,
I was brought up not to mock the afflicted, I once pointed and laughed at a dwarf and my dad? ...well lets just say I got a telling off! :(
It does look funny though and you are not a bad person lee don't worry :D

I find all sorts of odd things funny and as long as your not laughing at people it's ok (though I'm guilty of that and can't help myself and it gets me into trouble LOL)

Aw I think I have actually made myself sound really bad in this thread.. I would never laugh at somebody in a malicious way if you know what I mean? Like if I see somebody falling I'll check they're ok then fall about laughing (unless it's an old person as even the though of that makes me cry)

The tourettes thing is a funny one though... I mean, one of the girls in that programme has had to give up uni because of it and I'm sure people in the street must assume she's just barking mad as she walks about shouting things like "vagina for sale" and doing nazi salutes etc.. it'shorrible really... but when people are talking to her she gives them the finger right to their face.. omg I'm laughing even typing this! There is something hilarious about her.. she seems to have a really funny perdsonality anyway which makes it even funnier!

I kinda agree with this, as long as we keep it more or less to ourselves it's no big deal.

Lee. 19-09-2012 12:40 PM

See this? **** off John's friend Chooper (the one with Tourettes written on his top)( didn't develop it until he was 30!

I am scared I could still end up with it for being such a cruel person!!

I mught even start to pretend I've got it just so I can shout "**** off " at people in the street! :)

people that can't handle conflict really annoy me. It's all well and good to be positive, but if you can't have serious conversations, and every time things get real you try to laugh it off, that annoys me.

Having a sense of humor is great, but when things get real you also need to be able to handle being serious.
