Kid on 4chan threatens to shoot up school, police now investigating
The King County Sheriff’s Office is taking an online post from someone threatening to shoot Skyline High School students in Sammamish Thursday seriously as they investigate where the threat came from.
The Issaquah School District said the school would be closed Thursday on its Facebook page.
According to screenshot pictures circulated on Twitter and Facebook, a threat apparently made by a Skyline High School student said, “I am going to open fire on the people in the commons in the morning until I am either taken down by our school’s police officer, or until I run out of mags.” A picture of the gun, which the writer described as his father’s Erma sub-machine gun, was posted next to the threat.
The threat said the primary shooting targets would be “jocks” and people who “use their wealth and social status to act superior to others.” The writer expected to die while carrying out the shooting.
“We don’t know who made the threat but we’re going to take it as legitimate just so everyone stays safe,” said Sgt. Cindi West.
District officials raced to notify students, parents, and staff late Wednesday night of Skyline High School’s closure through e-mail and social media accounts. The district has not announced the closure of any other schools, but many commenting on the district’s Facebook page are hoping it does.
“All administrators at all schools are aware of the incident as well as the Sammamish police and all will be extra vigilant,” the district posted on its Facebook page.
