Big Brother fans call ‘rigged’ after Nine airs George eviction promo early

Nine’s Big Brother is facing accusations of rigging after the network accidentally aired a promo revealing the departure of contestant George several hours before voting was supposed to have ended.

The network claims that it had three different promos ready to allow for the eviction of each contestant who faced the public vote, and that George’s was broadcast early “in error”. The network claims that it was a coincidence that it happened to be the correct one that was broadcast.

The network made the eviction as part of its live show which aired in eastern states from 6.30pm on Sunday night.

But at 4.15pm, the Big Brother Facebook page posted a message urging viewers to continue to vote because the promotion was incorrect.

George’s eviction caused surprise among many of those commenting as several believed that housemate Estelle would be evicted.

According to presenter Sonia Kruger, George lost out by less than one per cent.

The viewer voting part of the show is a lucrative one for Nine, with hundreds of thouands of votes cast during each weekly eviction at a cost of 55c per phone or SMS vote. Viewers can also vote via Facebook by buying Facebook Credits.

Big Brother is produced for Nine by Southern Star. The terms and conditions of voting allow Nine to keep detail of the results confidential. The lengthy terms and conditions contain no information about whether the results are independently audited.

THANK THE HEAVENS. Surely a candidate for the most boring housemate of any Big Brother ever - there were several times I genuinely forgot he was in there

Marc 23-09-2012 11:20 AM

I say Michael next

Flamingjoe 23-09-2012 11:39 AM

This is why BBAU's nomination/eviction format is the best in the world. Having three or more housemates up for eviction with a vote to save is the perfect way to get rid of the boring housemates.

I agree, done well so far this season

Get BRADLEY OUT!!!

Marc 23-09-2012 12:39 PM

Nooooooo

Flamingjoe 23-09-2012 12:49 PM

As much as I dislike Bradley and Estelle, I'm glad that George went. I don't think we would have had another opportunity to get him out.

reece(: 23-09-2012 12:53 PM

Love that Estelle stayed though :)

It went really how I expected it to go. Only surprise was George had so many votes. And George continues to show how stupid he has been by just going with the crowd and giving the superpower to Layla, instead of thinking for himself.

Thak God he's gone. So close between him or Bradley though, so hopefully Bradley's time will come soon.

Have a feeling Ava will be up this week, hope she goes next.

_Seth 23-09-2012 02:32 PM

Glad he's gone. Bradley or Ben out next tbh. :)

reece(: 23-09-2012 03:45 PM
