Radio1 - Is Grimmy doing a good job?

Since Chris Moyle's breakfast show ended do you think Nick Grimshaw has done a good job in replacing CM?

I think he's doing alright, I know R1 have probably lost a lot of viewers when CM left, but I think they'll come back soon!

Jake. 12-10-2012 04:18 PM

dunno

I haven't heard it since he was on but generally I hate him.

Jake. 12-10-2012 04:22 PM

he looks like russel kane

MTVN 12-10-2012 04:41 PM

Not heard it but I can't imagine he's better than Moyles and the whole "Team Grimmy" thing leading up to it was really annoying

Marcus. 12-10-2012 04:42 PM

dont know do like him

Marc 12-10-2012 04:46 PM

He plays more music than Chris Moyles did which is nice!

Jack_ 12-10-2012 04:47 PM

In a word, no. I've nothing against Grimmy and he seems like a decent guy but the new show is so half-arsed it's actually an insult to the hard work and dedication Moyles put into his show for eight and a half years. It basically sounds like the rest of Radio 1's daytime output - like you could hear the same thing at 1pm and it wouldn't sound out of place, it's not a breakfast show and appears to have no separate identity, it's just a carbon copy of the rest of the daytime schedule.

The breakfast show of any radio station is the flagship show and so as such should have its own identity and feel a lot different to the rest of the day's content, Grimmy's show doesn't. He sounds really bored at times and you can tell, as much as he may protest otherwise, that it is clearly not his 'dream' job and he doesn't have as much of an interest in radio as Moyles did. And honestly the desperation to lower the average age of the listener is so blindly evident it's awful. I like One Direction but the constant plugging and references is really ridiculous - it's as if they're targeting the show at 12 year old girls. Well, hello...the target demographic is 15 - 29 year olds and both male and females, I don't think a lot of people are being catered for and that's a slippery slope to start going down.

Whatever you think of Moyles, whether you like his style or not, he was (and is) an exceptionally talented and creative broadcaster with a real passion and understanding for his job which isn't shown by a lot of Radio 1's current crop of DJ's (hello Fearne Cotton). It's the little things that annoy me, the lack of sung, unique, branded jingles that Chris had, his ability to drive the desk to perfection, hit vocals, have good timing and produce a show which catered to a wide-range of people of all different ages. Ben Cooper's made a big mistake here IMO and not letting Moyles have his ten years is just an insult to the hard work he put in which is seemingly slowly being destroyed.

You may have heard of this recent invention called the interweb, where you can listen to sing song through a process called steaming. It's bloody marvellous. You'll need a google machine to be able to do this though, one that can fit tiny people in who will sing song for you.

King Gizzard 13-10-2012 03:43 AM

No need for that Sonny Jim

Benjamin 13-10-2012 03:44 AM

I believe there was need. :idc:

I am not sure about him to be honest. After having to see 3 hours of him at the Teen Awards he began to annoy me!

I was looking through Twitter and it seems a lot of people agree that this has become more aimed at 12 year olds

Joelle. 15-10-2012 11:45 PM

Well at least he plays more music so you dont have to listen to his voice too much. But you were lucky if Moyles played two songs an hour. Even Grimmy is better than having to listen to him, Dave and Aled talk bollocks constantly for the whole show.

InOne 15-10-2012 11:51 PM

Not heard it, but doesn't sound great. Moyles was hit and miss at times but it will be hard to replace him, not suprised a lot of people have stopped listening. They should've got a more established DJ to fill the spot.

I hate this argument. If I wanted to listen to music I'd put my iPod on, as in 2012 most young people will and do do. I'd much rather listen to easy-listening chat than high rotation playlist tracks that I'll hear on any other commercial station and Radio 1 for the rest of the day.

smeagol 16-10-2012 01:01 PM
