BNP Nick Griffin suspended from Twitter after posting gay couple's address

Police are investigating complaints against British National Party leader Nick Griffin after he posted the address of a gay couple on Twitter.

The MEP encouraged his followers to demonstrate outside the Cambridgeshire home of Michael Black and John Morgan, who recently won their civil case against a Christian B&B owner who refused to let them stay in a double room due to her religious beliefs.

Griffin's Twitter account has been since been suspended, and a spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire police confirmed it is looking into "a number of complaints" about the tweets.

Griffin had written: "If anyone can give us address of the 2 bullying 'gay' activists who've won case v Christian B&B owners, we'll hold demo...for rights of all home owners, gays included, to rent or not rent rooms to whomsoever they wish."

Two hours later, he added: "A British Justice team will come up to [their address] & give you [Black and Morgan] a... bit of drama by way of reminding you that an English couple's home is their castle. Say No to heterophobia!

"Why don't left & gay activists confront Muslims instead of picking on meek & forgiving Christians? Bullies are always cowards!"

Officers have been in contact with the men and planned to visit their home in Brampton tonight (October 18).

LGBT Labour, the party's campaign for gay rights, urged people to report Griffin for allegedly breaching the Communications Act 2003, which states that posting menacing messages online is an offence. Others have reported the comments to the Met's internet hate crime unit.

Stonewall, the gay rights campaign group, called Griffin's actions "unbelievably shocking", adding that it is a "real example of the hatred still out there towards gay people".

Susanne Wilkinson, owner of the Swiss Bed and Breakfast in Cookham, Berkshire, was ordered to pay the couple £3,600 in damages on Thursday after Reading Crown Court found that she had been directly discriminatory to them. The money will be donated to charity.

A prime example of how bigots and extremists use social media to incite hatred.
Glad he has been silenced.

Sad pathetic bigoted little man still trying to inflict his twisted views on others. For the umpteenth time, if you run a business ie B&B you cannot discriminate against a group of people that in your view are not in keeping with your personal beliefs.

As for trying to stoke up anti gay hysteria and inciting people to demonstrate outside these men's home , simply unacceptable he should be arrested and charged with incitement to promote hatred to sexual minorities.

:nono: in all honesty with a post like that I think you would be welcomed with open arms by the BNP.

To play Devil's Advocate for a minute... looking at Trip Advisor, I notice that there are lots of Muslim hotels in the UK. Now that a precedent has been set in court prosecuting a Christian couple, I look forward with interest to the first case of a Muslim hotel being sued by a gay couple - or indeed an unmarried heterosexual couple - for not allowing them to share a bed. The difference is, I think, that a gay or unmarried heterosexual couple would know that Muslims would be against them sharing a bed and would not put them in the position where they had to refuse. Christians aren't take that seriously though, which is strange in a supposedly Christian country.

Oh, and a word about Nick Griffin: tosser... dangerous tosser.

Yes it would be interesting to see if the situation was changed to a Muslim B&B would they turn away a gay couple (Muslim or Christian). And would the gay couple sue in the way this couple have. Both religions have minorities within that do not acknowledge same sex relationships but the law applies to both as they cannot discriminate in this way.

My own view however is that a Muslim B&B who did discriminate this way would also discriminate against non muslims (gay or straight) and as such it is unlikely they would want bookings from both groups.

Kizzy 19-10-2012 11:45 AM

Was the B&B advertised as christian? Were the couple made aware on booking that this was a policy of the establishment that same sex couples could only book a twin room?
Why wait untill they arrive for their stay to insult and embarrass them....
They were well within their rights to take them to court if the owners were hiding behind religion to cover their bigotry.

I don't believe it matters what religion the B&B owners are, you cannot advertise a discriminatory policy in this way. it is against the law and the situation as we have seen would be unchanged by promoting the B&B as a Christian B&B. Whether the couple in question would have wanted to stay there is another question...

It was yes. I actually sympathise with the Christian couple, I remember reading about this story when it first came out a couple of years ago and the Christians did advertise clearly on their website that they have strong beliefs and so the double room would only be available to married couples, the gay couple also used a fake name in booking it I believe. Part of me thinks that if you're offering up your own home as a B&B should people require it the you're providing a service, and as such should have the right to set the terms of using that service

But then I suppose if you'rerunning a public business it's not fair to discriminate with that, I don't know but I don't think it's a black and white issue

Mrluvaluva 19-10-2012 11:51 AM

According to Griffin, everybody has the right to discriminate. What an absurd comment.

If that was the case then you have to wonder why the couple thought it would be a good idea to stay there. Perhaps they wanted to force the issue and promote equality for same sex couples using the protection the law affords them to highlight the discriminatory views of the B&B owners.

Oh actually ignore me, I was thinking of an identical case a few years ago and getting the two mixed up, I don't know if it was advertised in this case

Niall 19-10-2012 12:22 PM

"Say no to heterophobia". Show's how much the ****ing idiot knows about what actually happened.

Absolutely vile cretin. I hate him so much I can't even put it into words.

I was watching a doc a last year and it said a lot were turning again Nick inside the BNP, think even they are getting sick of his antics. But what I'd be really worried was if a guy called Mark Collett came into power who is high up in the BNP ranks. He a complete Sociopath and could imagine him to be much more dangerous than Nick. I don't think he'd be the blundering idiot type like Griffin.

Redway 19-10-2012 03:31 PM
