X Factor whistleblower claims 'judges are told which acts to keep'

A supposed X Factor whistleblower has claimed that the show’s judges are told which acts to keep and boot out of the show.

Following in the fallout from the previous two decisions on the results show, which both saw the judges sent the vote to deadlock, a former employee has said it is “well known” backstage that the panel are “briefed on who should go”.

“The judges are told who to keep for the sake of the ratings,” the former employee told Reveal magazine this week.

TV watchdog Ofcom is expected to announce next week whether or not it will investigate the show after more than 3,000 complained when Carolynne Poole left ahead of Rylan Clark.

Fans were angered when Louis decided to save Rylan over Carolynne, thereby sending the decision to deadlock.

Defending his decision, Louis said: “I couldn’t make up my mind. So, finally, I decided that the fairest thing to do was to go to the public vote and Rylan had more votes than Carolynne. It was sad but it was the fairest option.”

But there was controversy when viewers spotted the show’s executive producer Richard Holloway talking to Louis during the sing-off between Carolynne and Rylan.

The telly chief commented last week: “We chat to the judges during the show. On Sunday night I was telling Louis the order the judges would vote in and that he would be last.”

Of course, regardless of whether or not the judges’ decision is influenced by producers, in both cases the acts with the fewest votes went home, so it’s hard to complain.

Ultimately the judges can only decide between the acts that appear in the bottom two, so if fans don’t want their favourite to be in threat they must vote!

Absolutely no offence to you OP - at all...but this really isn't a revelation or new news.

I suppose there will be folk who believe otherwise: but of course the judges are nothing more than employees: and doing what they are told - after all: it is on tv, the important thing is the viewing figures: more viewers would = more people voting. Voting = £'s.

Honestly this whole 'scandal' is so tiresome. Are people seriously only just realising that X Factor isn't a genuine, trustworthy, bonafide singing competition?

I love X Factor and it's one of my favourite shows...but I'm not going to kid myself into thinking it's something it's not. It's an entertainment show first, competition second, and to be honest I enjoy it that way (as do most people, whether they're willing to admit it or not - that's why it's more popular than The Voice, drama makes good TV).

People seriously need to stop all this faux outrage about 'fixing' and the like. They cannot fix the votes, I really need people to get this into their heads. They cannot fix the votes. The results are counted and adjudicated by an independent company and after what has happened in the past with scandals surrounding voting on TV shows, if the X Factor (or any other TV show for that matter) was found to be fixing voting and cheating the public out of money, the show would be cancelled, a hefty fine would be administered and the channel most likely be out of business.

Just enjoy the show for what it is - light-hearted Saturday and Sunday night entertainment. It's a very well produced show and for the most part is highly entertaining. Forget about this new 'scandal'...and...move on, it's television, what do you expect?

This has totally destroyed my faith in the programme....could this mean the producers have a hand in who the judges pick at judges houses too......... :joker: come on does anyone really believe that the judges arent told who to keep....Tesco Mary who had been saved by the judges as she had been by the public would have gone on to duet with Will i am...:joker:

Well all I know is I thought Carolynne was crap and Rylan was a hoot. Maybe a lot of viewers thought the same and voted as such. Eh? Everyone loves their conspiracy theories these days but in the end the public decide...

Shaun 21-10-2012 12:27 AM

so there'll be an investigation and then the show will be forced to just put the people with the fewest votes out, and everyone will find that boring and switch off and it'll be cancelled. well done everyone.

I actually wish they'd dedicate more time to the actual sing off/judges voting process instead of shoving it into the last 10 minutes of the show, it's so irritating when Dermot is screaming at them to hurry up - like, could they not just get rid of the finalists doing a big group performance and add that time onto the voting part? Obviously they have two guests on the show because it's good promo and it draws viewers in, so that would stay.
