The Blair Witch Project

It pretty much launched the found footage genre. What do you make of it? I personally love it

King Gizzard 12-11-2012 12:36 AM

waste of time

I usually quite like minimalistic films but I thought this film was rubbish, it was a great idea that was (mostly) poorly executed. The ending was effective but everything that came before it was rather weak.

Spoiler:

For practical reasons it's a creepy image to end on. For storyline purposes I can't quite remember if they give an explanation, I'm pretty sure they mention that it's something that the witch used to do before killing her victims but I might be imagining that.

No, There is a real reason

Spoiler:

it's because it explained that when the witch killed the kids she "captured" she'd make one kid face the corner of the room while she killed the other kid, and then would kill the one facing the corner. therefore the cameraguy was facing the wall because the girl was getting murdered.

King Gizzard 12-11-2012 02:11 AM

ok saw this on a youtube video comment

Spoiler:

He's standing in the corner because earlier in the film the chick made a reference to an old story in the newspapers about a serial killer who kidnapped and murdered children (hence the bloody children's hand prints all over the walls) & while he was killing one in the basement he would make the other kid stand in the corner. The murderer later said the Blair Witch told him to do it. So the inference here in this scene is that the spirit of the witch is making these film-makers kill each other.

Pretty good on first watch but they really shouldn't have made a second film

Niamh. 12-11-2012 08:59 AM

Thing is, you just can't ignore what it did  to be made with a $500,000 - $700,000 budget and make $248,639,099 (which, in 2012, is $342,348,277.91) is amazing, just like the critical response.

LOL You dont like it I presume.

I thought the idea was brilliant, the minimalistic improvised script worked well but the acting was dire. Truly dreadful.
