First dates

Such a minefield for potential awkwardness, embarrassment and the like. Anyone got any funny stories? What kinds of things do you not like for a first date, or what do you like to do on a first date? Where would you go, where would you not go? Do you ask people out or do you wait for others to ask you out?

first dates usually end up getting jiggy somewhere lol

maybe its me but thats how they end or mainly start

Never really been on a date :(

Thankfully my days of first dates are over!

The only first date disaster I had was when I was about 17/18... I'd had my eye on this guy for ages. He went to a different school to me, was outrageously good looking, played rugby etc etc. He eventually asked me out and we arranged to go to my local pub as I knew my buddies would be there and I promised them I'd go and show him off.. when we got there my friends were all exchanging humorous looks and trying not to laugh. Puzzled, I dragged one of them off to the loo to ask what was so funny and it turns out the whole town knew him as the John Menzies wanker; he worked there at weekends and had somehow been caught relieving himself with a sock in the toilets! :bored:
It didn't totally put me off, but he spent the rest of the night talking of nothing but himself, then our next fate he invited me to his house and when I got there he had the Trivial Pursuit set up.... I had to give him the "its not you, its me" talk
Then he phoned my Grandma twice asking what was wrong with me and asking her to talk me into going out with him again. Jesus!

..I've only really ever had one proper first date..well, I've had a few others but they weren't really dates exactly...

..my first real date was a disaster..I mean a total disaster...it couldn't have gone worse tbh.....but fortunately for me, my OH had already decided that he was going to marry me the first time he saw me.....that's what he tells me anyway...so I'm quite happy to stick with that.....

..oh...I'm not actually going to say what happened on the date though....it's just far too embarrassing....

I think my one earlier in the year with the intelligent guy who started telling me science facts while I was all 'DO YOU LIKE ADAM ISAAC FROM THE VOICE' before spilling stuff all over myself isn't my highlight.

Not seen him really since.

The whole "date" thing is very American to me.

Novo 29-11-2012 05:24 PM

I class my first date as going to the Zoo with some girl from School when i was in Year 9, she made me spend like £50 on her if i remember correctly although it was my mum's money so it was alright but never again have i gone for an expensive farce like that i'll stick to a takeaway and £2.99 DVD nowadays if they are lucky

Lee. 29-11-2012 05:26 PM

Oh no Andy... foodd is a nono on a first date!

Novo 29-11-2012 05:29 PM

Good you've just given me reason to buy them a bottle of £2 wine instead and with the £2.99 DVD that would only be £4.99 in these hard financial times i think they would accept that

Lee. 29-11-2012 05:30 PM

I think that sounds much better!

This, although my parents always think any girl that talks to me fancies me lol.

InOne 29-11-2012 08:30 PM

They probably do, no woman can resist a bit of Mock.

The best bit is though is that they accuse me of fancying any of the girls that I talk to aswell.

Roy Mars III 29-11-2012 08:33 PM

I take every first date to the same small Greek restaurant.

I have 60% success rate at a second date, so I figure might as well just stick to the formula.

Mystic Mock 29-11-2012 08:34 PM

Roy the womanizer.

I might take some of your ideas someday Roy.

Tom4784 29-11-2012 08:45 PM

I think I've only ever really been on one proper first date before. All but one of my relationships have been with people I've known for years so most of the time we just hung out.

The date I went on was quite normal really, She made dinner and then we went to the Cinema. No major disasters or anything (apart from the film, ugh).
