Christopher Maloney struck down with vomiting virus - but still makes final

A doctor was called by worried show staff and advised Chris not to go on stage – but he went ahead anyway

Woozy X Factor finalist Chris Maloney defied doctor’s orders not to perform at the weekend – after being struck down by a virus.

The bug was so bad, the 34-year-old was sick seconds before he went on stage – but it didn’t stop the controversial contestant getting through to next week’s live final.

A doctor was called by worried show staff and advised Chris not to go on stage – but he went ahead to deliver his below-par performance of a Michael Buble song. He was sick again when he came off stage.

Despite the average display, Chris will still star in the series finale alongside James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas after boy band Union J were voted off last night.

Over one million viewers voted in the semi-final, which prompted boos from a stunned studio audience as Scouser Chris sailed through despite weeks of criticism from the show’s panel.

But what the fans didn’t know was that the wannabe star had been violently ill before performing the day before.

A source said: “Chris was very ill but is a real trouper and went ahead. He didn’t want anything to get in the way of making the final. The doctor ruled out food poisoning – it might be the winter vomiting bug. He was in a really bad way.”

Gary didn't say a word on the main show about Chris being ill but said on the Xtra Factor that Chris had vomited because of 'nerves' and then when pushed looked uncomfortable and said' I'll shut up now'. Did nobody see this?

I have to laugh that suddenly Chris fans believe a story from the Mirror about him.

Throwing up is Chris's routine sympathy plea for this week. Last week it was that he works harder than everyone else, the week before that it was that criticizing him was making 'me Nan' ill. I wonder what next week's sob story will be. Anyone up for guessing?

good old Maloney

Marsh. 03-12-2012 10:58 PM

Funny they didn't play it up in the VT with all the dramatic music.

Mystic Mock 03-12-2012 11:02 PM

Because Maloney can get the votes without that, unlike Jahmene.

Ramsay 03-12-2012 11:04 PM

What an incredible man

MTVN 03-12-2012 11:08 PM

What a guy, while other contestants would use it as a sob story or to get a bye Maloney didn't even mention it, a real trooper

johnx 05-12-2012 05:43 PM

The Show must go on.
