Is there a line of trolling you don't cross?

Now there's a lot on here that sometimes like to casually troll. Me included in the BB times as it would be boring if not. But where do you draw the line, as in what is your cut off point where you think you may be going a bit too far?

For me it's probably if someone is genuinely getting upset by something or the joke it just getting old or whatever. And mine is never really at people directly, it's usually all about winding people up using HM's and making ridiculous threads about HM's (Dirty Deana for example). And if you're getting upset over HM's then you're a bit silly aren't you.

Black Dagger 11-12-2012 10:11 PM

I don't think I'd ever wish a house-mate dead. So that is my cut-off point.

I think that'd be most people's cut off points.

Josy 11-12-2012 10:13 PM

Yeah I think basically when people are getting upset or just not finding the 'jokes' funny any more then it's time to drop it.

Kizzy 11-12-2012 10:14 PM

I don't like trolls, trolling or being accused of being a troll.

Having a joke around is not trolling.

Not everyone will agree with this though, I personally think it's not a joke when the person it's directed at is getting genuinely upset about it.

InOne 11-12-2012 10:19 PM

Trolling isn't always about being offensive I don't think, there's lots of different forms of it.

Well yeah, that's the difference though.

Being sarcastic or joking is not trolling. Deliberately trying to provoke a reaction, be it upset or angry is trolling.

I agree, I see it as really offensive to be labelled a troll.

Jamie585 11-12-2012 10:52 PM

This may be stupid...

But what the ****** is trolling???

In Internet slang, a troll ( /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."
While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families."[4][5]

Trololololol

Black Dagger 11-12-2012 11:23 PM

I'd definitely not sign up to dedicated forums to spread hate as well, don't get people who do that.

True. Some people just have no idea when to let things drop.

Niamh. 12-12-2012 10:19 AM

Trolling by following an unpopular HM just because they're unpopular and it winds people up that's funny *cough*Novo, locke*cough* I don't really do it myself but I do find it entertaining

Saph 12-12-2012 11:06 AM

I try not to troll (intentionally..) unless i'm really really bored, but i'd never deliberately upset another member (intentionally..)

I suppose I sometimes take the piss a bit during BB but mainly because I try not to take it too seriously and think it's silly some of stuff people come out with during it and how worked up people get, don't actually intend to upset or offend anyone with anything I post. I do genuinely like the people I support as well, don't just do it because they're hated or because it winds people up
