Samsung teases 'unprecedented new TV shape' set to be revealed next week (and it could be transparent as well)
New TV could also be transparent, allowing any window to become a TV at the switch of a button
Announcement set to be made next week at the annual CES show in Las Vegas

when switched off you can see through it

I don't understand the need for a transparent screen? Like why would you want a big empty transparent rectangle when it's turned off? What's the advantage? Too see all the wires behind it? Just seems like a load of pointless hassle to me.

And portrait?! Why!? What possible advantage could portrait filmed content give I just what this doesn't make a lick of sense.

I suppose the idea is that when it is switched off it will look like it almost is not there.
