THQ auctions off assets - WWE franchise to go to 2K (Take2)?

THQ and all company assets will officially be divided up and have been sold in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy auction.

Many of the publisher's assets were already purchased through the auction, including Sega buying Company of Heroes studio Relic Games for $26 million, according to DDInvesting.

Ubisoft placed the leading bid on South Park: The Stick of Truth for $3.2 million, despite South Park Digital Studios attempting to have the game exempt from the auction. Ubisoft also purchased THQ's Montreal studio for $2.5 million, which is headed by former Assassin's Creed designer Patrice Désilets working on a game tentatively titled 1666.

Koch Media, which is the owner of Dead Island publisher Deep Silver, purchased Volition studios and their Saints Row and Red Faction franchises for $22.3 million, along with the Metro series for $5.8 million.

Crytek, which had already begun developing Homefront 2, bought the rights in full to that series for $500,000.

Finally, Take Two has bought the rights to Left 4 Dead developer Turtle Rock's upcoming game called Evolve for $11 million.

In a letter to all THQ employees, CEO Brian Farrell and president Jason Rubin said that any unclaimed assets will still be part of the publisher's Chapter 11 case and it will "make every effort to find appropriate buyers, if possible".

Unfortunately, this seems to spell bad news for Darksiders developer Vigil Games, as former employees can already be found on Twitter asking about job openings.

The Darksiders series could still be picked up by a publisher, along with other unclaimed franchises like Destroy All Humans and de Blob.

R.I.P. THQ :(

I do hope Saints Row doesn't suffer... I think there'll always be a gap in the market for a more-insane GTA where you can create obese asian women with male cockney accents.

Hopefully Volition will remain the same, if Koch Media has any sense they'll let the dev team get on with it

The WWE video game franchise will reportedly be sold to Take Two, the parent company of 2K Sports.

Talks between the two parties have taken place outside of the THQ auction process, according to IGN, with an announcement expected soon.

A new partnership was teased by WWE Games on Twitter, who confirmed that new games would continue to be released.

"We don't have any details to share yet, but there WILL continue to be WWE Games. Stay tuned for more information and some exciting news!" reads a WWE Games tweet.

Many of THQ's assets have been purchased at auction, including Sega buying Company of Heroes studio Relic Games and Koch Media purchasing the Saints Row and Metro series.

Ubisoft, meanwhile, placed the leading bid on South Park: The Stick of Truth and also picked up THQ's Montreal studio.

Last year's WWE 13 features context-sensitive 'OMG' moments and a roster made up of more than 80 wrestlers.

The game's single-player campaign revisited the 'Attitude Era', focusing on wrestlers such as Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind, DX and The Rock.
