Depeche Mode - Heaven [New Single]

I know they don't care about commercial viability but it's still an odd choice for a first single. It sounds like 70's Rod Stewart being pushed through an analog synthesizer and it's amazing but it takes ages to grow - even in my mind.

What I'd really like to know is how they still look so damn gorgeous. And why this thread has no replies.

[In before the generic MM&I/similar level of posters torrent of "it's so bad" smileyface etc.]

tune sounds like a super-slow "Nightcall" off the Drive soundtrack... I really like this.

Urgh, depeche mode are far too good to be making burtonesque dirges for emos.....jus sayin...

Niamh. 01-02-2013 11:55 AM

What's a dirge?

Black Dagger 01-02-2013 11:58 AM

Oh urgh, why did I forget my earphones today =(.

Will report back when I get home!

They've gone from singing Black Celebration to a song titled 'Heaven'.

Just saying.

Haven't they got a new album coming out soon?

Stu 01-02-2013 07:21 PM

Yeah Delta Machine, 25th March. It'll be a day of celebration in the Stu household. I'm taking some of my friends to see them when they play Dublin and I'll probably throw in a Paris or Berlin date for myself as well.

Here is the only other released track from the album, Angel Of Love :

I love the minimalist electronic, organic sort of sound they've adopted. A lot of fans miss the thick, heavy layers and a constant continuation of Violator would have suited them fine seemingly but I think change is good.

Depeche Mode! :worship::worship::worship:

I read in the Pitchfork review that Martin Gore said the album has a similar vibe to Violator and the tracks on the album are some of the best the group have ever recorded, in his opinion. Sounds promising.

Stu 01-02-2013 08:09 PM

Tis the usual PR spin really. I can't hear any of Violator in it. It's got a lot of blusey stuff akin to Songs Of Faith And Devotion but their sound is much different to what it was. It's cleaner and it's got more room in it. They've cut down on the doom factor a lot.

I'm really, really excited for it. It's going to be hard not to be biased. Invariably I'll love all the material but will see how others can see criticism. People shouldn't be expecting Violator 2 though. You can't repeat something like that. It was the perfect time and place and just sounds amazing from start to finish.

I suppose you already know this, but...

Delta Machine is due out on 25 March, and as well as the standard release, their new label Columbia will be issuing a two-CD deluxe edition, which includes a 26-page photo booklet by Anton Corbjn, and four extra tracks on the bonus CD.

One of the four bonus tracks (All That’s Mine) is actually also the B-side to the forthcoming single Heaven, which is out a week earlier on 18 March. This single is being made available as a two-track CD single and a ‘maxi’ five-track CD single with four remixes offered in addition to the single version of Heaven.

Delta Machine will also be available as a 2xLP vinyl edition.

Deluxe Edition track listing:

Disc 1

1. Welcome To My World
2. Angel
3. Heaven
4. Secret To The End
5. My Little Universe
6. Slow
7. Broken
8. The Child Inside
9. Soft Touch/Raw Nerve
10. Should Be Higher
11. Alone
12. Soothe My Soul
13. Goodbye
Disc: 2

1. Long Time Lie
2. Happens All The Time
3. Always
4. All That’s Mine

Superdeluxeedition

No 100 quid super duper box set edition this time :(.

I pre ordered the 2 disc edition already :amazed: then my mum upstaged me by getting the new variation of the 'DM' logo on her wrist :(.

I can't stop listening to Heaven. It's such a grower. I love that Martin's now taken to writing very spiritual cosmicy kind of songs to make people happy. Dude's a born again hippy since kicking the booze.

I can't wait to hear what Welcome To My World looks like. The first track is always a belter and almost always opens up the new tour.

Mrluvaluva 05-02-2013 07:27 PM

The deluxe edition is only £11.99 on Amazon. But there is the vinyl edition too. Then there are the US, Canadian and German releases...All this collecting lark can get very expensive.

I can't find a specific Depeche Mode thread so I am posting here. Cba starting another. Info for Stu really but he most probably knows already.

Everything from their 1981 debut, SPEAK & SPELL through last year's release will be available in glossy gatefold sleeves with thick slabs of 180 gram vinyl, all containing inserts and liner notes.

Next Tuesday, February 4th, the reissue campaign begins with the following albums, available for pre-order now:
