Thinking of coming back to the UK

So as you know, I am currently living in New Zealand. My visa is due to end in 10 weeks. I can either extend it to a second year, apply for a working visa with my company or return home.

I'm a bit undecided about what to do, I love NZ, but the idea of going home keeps cropping up more often.

I don't know what to do.

InOne 11-02-2013 10:28 PM

Go to a different country

Ninastar 11-02-2013 10:28 PM

I think it depends whats better for you job/career/experience wise.

Josy 11-02-2013 10:30 PM

Are you not enjoying that job you have over there? if you are then you would probably be better staying on for a while.

bbfan1991 11-02-2013 10:30 PM

If you are homesick and want to be close to your loved ones then come back, although NS is right consider how you are feeling in general, job wise and whether you want to maybe perhaps try out a new country to live in?:)

Me. I Am Salman 11-02-2013 10:33 PM

by far the best country in the world

Marc 11-02-2013 10:34 PM

Don't come back

MTVN 11-02-2013 10:35 PM

Reckon I would miss the UK too much if I ever emigrated

Do you have a job to come back to? If not, then stay where you are.

If you do though, and you think you'll be happier amongst your own people, then do it.

Niall 12-02-2013 12:17 AM

Just try and think about where you'll be happiest and take it from there. That's all I can think of really.

Welcome back to England

I love my job here, and I don't have any job to come back to, lol. I just think this stage of the travelling is making me think about home. If I stay away longer than a year it will break my record set by Australia.

Kizzy 12-02-2013 12:29 AM

Aw, are you missing the cold, the rain, the air of social and economic discord, the general malaise?

The UK is generally miserable and depressing. Look forward to finishing Uninand hopefully being able to go to another country. I envy you if it makes you feel better,Ben

GypsyGoth 12-02-2013 12:52 AM

The past year has zoomed by, so I think if you chose to stay for another year, it'll go back just as fast.

I feel that you should stay and have another twelve months of fun and experiences.

Withano 12-02-2013 02:14 AM

when in doubt, bash one out

..maybe don't do anything until you do know what to do and feel it's right...hmm, I don't know when you have to apply to have your visa extended..?..

..yeah, but that's just..'at this stage'..you've done it before and you know that feeling will pass...it's just part of the whole process and can be interpreted as 'letting go' just as easily as you may feel it's pulling you in a certain direction....

..if you don't have to apply to have your visa extended yet, maybe just give it a few more weeks to decide...and in the meantime, try not to think about it too much and just enjoy what you have and see how it feels when the decision has to be made....

..don't worry, we'll console Marc if you do come back...

AnnieK 12-02-2013 05:27 AM

You could always extend your visa and see how you feel. At least then your options are open. When I worked in the States I would have loved the option to extend but I couldn't, a year wasn't quite long enough although I soon slipped back into UK life.

thesheriff443 12-02-2013 08:10 AM

are all the sheep looking the same ben?:joker:
your doing thing's most can only dream of, you should think long and hard.

SharkAttack 12-02-2013 08:51 AM

Renew and stay a while. It's impossible for a place to feel like home unless you give it a chance. It takes nearly half a year to adjust to wtf is happening, while going about your work and life, and then another 6 months to truly see what you have...and that's just the start. Two years, minimum, and then go home if you aren't feeling it. Or somewhere else. Best wishes, Ben. :) Plus, you keep those perfect hours in between time zones to maintain steady conversation on our site here, so there's that. :joker:

Why don't you just go home for a holiday? What are your main reasons for wanting to go home and the main reasons for wanting to stay in NZ

Logic says
as you have no Job to return to
you must stay Down Under.

lily. 12-02-2013 12:28 PM

For once, I actually agree with Arista.

What kind of work do you do Ben? Are there prospects of employment for you if you return. The job market here is a huge mess, so you do have to consider that.

Kizzy 12-02-2013 12:40 PM

Write a list of pros and cons with the biggest at the top, then a clear answer may pop out at you?
