The Attorney General is investigating after photographs said to show one of James Bulger's killers were allegedly posted on the internet.

Images purporting to be of Jon Venables appeared on a social networking site.

Venables was convicted of killing two-year-old James along with Robert Thompson in Merseyside in 1993.

There is a worldwide ban on publishing anything revealing Venables' current identity.

A spokesman for the Attorney General Office (AGO) said he could not confirm or deny whether the pictures were of Venables.

'Worldwide injunction'

He said: "The AGO has been alerted to a possible contempt of court. We are liaising with the Ministry of Justice and others to establish the facts.

"It should be noted, there is a worldwide injunction in place which prevents the publication of any images or information purporting to identify anyone as Jon Venables."

The images, which were later removed, purported to show an adult Venables posing with friends.

Venables was 10 when he and his friend Thompson abducted and murdered James.

The toddler was beaten with bricks and iron bars and his body left on a railway line.

Venables was released on licence in 2001 after serving his sentence for killing James, but was jailed for two years in July 2010 after admitting downloading and distributing indecent images of children.

I know what they both look like bbfan and have the images, but I would never post them online as there is always a chance someone could attack the wrong person,it WAS only a matter of time though,i am surprised they lasted this long.Cant say I feel sorry for him.

No. I can't imagine many would have an ounce of sympathy for him

Mrluvaluva 14-02-2013 12:59 PM

The images were still on there this morning.

I agree, although I must say I don't believe in vigilante attacks either. IMO it just makes things worse.

Not sure why so much time, effort and money is being wasted on this...

Yeah mistaken identity is always a risk, I remember a couple of years ago an innocent man was mistaken for him and ended up fearing for his life because of it

I'm going to say something horrible now but I would not shed one tear if someone actually got it right !

Indeed, in some way you can understand it from that point of view and I can remember a story about a man who got beaten up in a case of mistaken identity because some people wrongly thought he was a paedophile in their local community.

I doubt it was "an eye for an eye ,and tooth for a tooth"

I'm not bothered about him, we saw him a couple of years back. It's Thompson I want to know looks like, he's the one that seems to have actually moved on with his life.

Brother Leon 14-02-2013 01:42 PM

It's an absolutely digusting and terrible crime and all, but the guy was 10 at the time. A case where rehabilitation is supposed to be the case rather than punishment imo.

Kazanne 14-02-2013 01:46 PM

I'm not getting into all this (they were 10)rubbish,all I know is at least one of them were not rehabilitated or punished imo.

Exactly. And I find the blood thirsty comments on Twitter and the like very disturbing. It was an awful crime but I'm sorry, whichever way you cut it being 10 is not the same as being 20. As I've said, Thompson seems to have moved on with his life but Venables needs some serious psychological help.

InOne 14-02-2013 01:53 PM

Venables was always said to be the Psychopathic one. (Never officially as you're not allowed to diagnose kids)

I find what THEY did Jack,'very disturbing' the numpties on Twitter are not actually hurting or killing anyone, just venting their anger. I like that saying 'Show me the boy of 7 and i'll show you the man' ,I am sure some people think this murder was a prank gone wrong,it wasn't.

I find what they did disturbing too, hence why I think they needed and still do need serious psychological help to ensure it never happens again.

Bloodthirsty comments and barbaric punishments don't solve anything, it's just a false sense of justice.

I don't think it was a prank gone wrong either, it was a premeditated murder and for two ten year olds to carry that out there is some deep rooted psychological issues which need addressing, hence why Venables in particular needs said help.

I think most 10 year olds know that to do something like this is abhorrently wrong. I don't see your point.

I think you only have to remember what the public were told as to young James torture and death, the whole story must be like something out of a horror book.

I am usually not one to brand children failures or bad but since Venables has in fact been sentenced again for dubious crimes despite the new identity and protection given I cannot feel an ounce of sympathy as what may come his way.

At 10, they for no one else but themselves could abduct James and then commit those atrocities against him and take his life too, what they did afterwards was sickening beyond belief.
I don't care how old Venables was or is, he would never get sympathy from me or get out of prison again either.
That is the best protection of him, keep him in there away from all decent society.

James was only 2 for goodness sake, what chance had he against these 2 rotten to the core monsters.
