do men like to hug more?

Im a tactile person. I like a good hug off my loved ones.
But Ive found over the years Im way way more huggy than any of my girlfriends. yet the media tells me all men are more aggressive and all we want is sex all day long and women prefer tenderness and hugs and kisses? as so often the case the difference between what the media tell us is reality is a million miles away from the actual reality.

Just wondering if this varies from person to person a lot. is it a male/female thing?
obviously most people wil say oh you cant generalize? yet the media does generalize on this and many issues. besides Im basing this on 15 years experience.

Ive had the same experience with every GF over 15 years. maybe Im just not huggable :bawling:

I don't hug... the kids might get a hug, on their birthday.

Cherie 23-02-2013 04:17 PM

My eldest son (16) loves a hug, and I get a hug from him every day. My youngest son (14) is not huggy at all and hugs only under duress...so I guess it depends on the person.

Drew. 23-02-2013 04:21 PM

i love a big squeeze

AnnieK 23-02-2013 04:21 PM

I am huggy when I want to be...I hug my son all the time but I like my own space too...I have some friends who hug every one they meet....I have some personal space issues unless I know someone really well...my mum wasn't very huggy so maybe that's where I get it from....(although she is totally different with her grand kids)

Jake. 23-02-2013 04:22 PM

Yeah I love a hug!

ps it would be an interesting questionaire to ask a cross section of male and females and see if there is a gender disparity here....unless women generally avoid them just in case it leads to sex they may not be in the mood for?

I was joking a bit, i'm like annie I don't hug random people or friends as a greeting but my lad at 16 likes a hug more than my lass whos 19.
She does hug her friends though and he doesen't so go figure haha.

In my family it's more common to hug when saying goodbye than hello too.

I avoid them with males and females though so its not a case of avoiding for avoidance of possible sex...I think it may be more how you were brought up....were your parents free with hugs truth? My parents weren't particularly so I don't see it is a comfort thing... Maybe thats why I am not a hugger, it wasn't usual for me???

Ramsay 23-02-2013 04:41 PM

I hug everyone, even people i just met

the truth 23-02-2013 04:42 PM

to underline my point, a woman in new york is making a fortune offering hugs for $60 an hour...its called the snuggery.....in a city of 20 million clearly theres a load of lonely people in those high towers, how desperately lonely would u be to actually pay for a hug? sad really

WELCOME TO THE SNUGGERY
Jacqueline established The Snuggery because she believes in the healing power of touch. The Snuggery is a place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and focus on the simple restorative pleasure of touch. Though science has unquestionably supported the psychological and physical benefits of non-sexual touch, Americans distinctly lack it. It's time for change. At The Snuggery, Jacqueline provides individuals with private snuggling sessions. She aims to make the world a gentler place, one snuggle at a time.

I feel awful admitting this, but I am just not a huggy person unless an occasion demands it and some just need a hug. I do tend to hug animals though, cats, dogs, bunnies, etc.

Jords 23-02-2013 04:45 PM

huggy huggy

Kizzy 23-02-2013 04:53 PM

Flip this feels like therapy... I'm off to find something to hug.
Maybe I don't hug enough? My son gets well jell if I hug the dog... :joker:

It's fine haha, I don't like it when those I don't know try to hug me, I find it a bit threatening in fact.
Those who hug sometimes don't pick up on non-verbal signals, that's really annoying when they just steam in and accost you, it's rude and intimidating. :(
