Nameless, Thread's/ Post's
Would we post in a different way if we did not know who started the thread or was giving their opinion's on a post?
Could you still still tell who was posting!, due to their posting style? |
No I think it would just be the same and you would still be able to tell who some of the posters are.

It's an interesting thought. I reckon that if user names weren't there (try to imagine it) I would still be able to tell who a lot of people were, from such things as their posting style, the things they choose to talk about etc. Even apart from that, as an observant person I tend to notice words and phrases people use a lot which can be a giveaway.
For example when we have the Christmas usernames, if I see one and don't know who it is, I'm pretty sure I would know anyway in the vast majority of cases. Use of smilies and gifs are also big clues if you know your fellow fms reasonably well. Edit: Adding more: In regards to the OPs point about how we respond to posts/threads depending on who made them, well he's spot on. It's human nature. Not saying its right, but if we are honest we all do it. Some far more than others however, ho hum. If anyone says they don't then they are kidding themselves. I've observed people jump on others for silly reasons, and say nothing on separate occasions when one of their forum "friends" posts more or less the same thing. It's hilarious. |
..I don't think I could Kate..if the username isn't under the Chistmas name then I often don't know who it is...some are more easy I guess but not all of them...not for me anyway...
|
I always get confused with the Christmas usernames :bored:
|
I could tell some I think, but not the majority. There are a few people I could tell on how they use punctuation and smilies but not all.... It would be quite interesting to see how many people would know who they were talking to if we had no usernames.

I think if you want to reply to a thread then you will regardless of who has made the thread.

You know I'm nearby if a :joker: smiley or talk of alcohol pops up

Yes Ammi and Glenn, I know so many of us have the Christmas names, its a bit crazy, but I do reckon that if you put your mind to you'd be able to work out people you knew reasonably well. I would know you Ammi, even without your ellipses, by the tone and style you use... you think a lot about your responses before you make them and advise, rather than tell people what to do. I'd know it was you. I think Ammi - you'd know such people as myself, Ben, Niamh, Livia, Joey, Mock straight away even if anonymous, and Glenn, you'd easily recognise Scott and Lucas.
These are just examples, there's loads of others. |

Edit: just to clarify - I mean typical quotes, if I got round to doing it no controversial or insulting posts would be used. |
A no username day would be a great idea, i'm up for it :)
|
A no username day would be fab!
|
I'd know pretty easily who most people are. Even if we didn't, little giveaways like a million smilies at the end of posts, my sarcasm, spellings etc always give people away.
All friends would just pile on to each others walls to let them know who/where they are anyway. It happens when we have usernames, so why would it stop if we didn't? |
