A customer dilemma....

You are working as a cashier at a fast food place. Your managers hold strict policies regarding tills and cash shortages, any shortage may result in a week's suspension, or termination of employment, if the amount is high enough.

A teenage boy who is obviously mentally handicapped comes in and orders about £10 worth of food. You hand him the food and he gives you £1 in return and walks away with it.

What do you do?

Niamh. 27-02-2013 12:25 PM

I call my manager and ask him what should i do :idc:

AnnieK 27-02-2013 12:26 PM

Bring it immediately to the attention of the Manager and hope they can advise on the best way to deal with it.

Suze 27-02-2013 12:27 PM

I would probably put the money in out of my own pocket.

Ammi 27-02-2013 12:28 PM

EDIT:..so the manager is out of the country at the time and not contactable...

..yeah, that's what I would do as well...

Niamh. 27-02-2013 12:30 PM

I don't know then, it's a tough one, I mean if it was a once off thing I'd probably just put the money in myself but what's to say that this guy thinks oh they take my money there I'll go back again tomorrow

Black Dagger 27-02-2013 12:31 PM

As unfortunate as his situation is, I'd obviously tell him that, that food cost him £10. I'm not risking unemployment when I'd have bills to be paying.

joeysteele 27-02-2013 12:31 PM

I would for sure put the difference in.

Jesus. 27-02-2013 12:31 PM

I'd call the police, and SWAT teams. That s**t ain't going down on my watch.

Niamh. 27-02-2013 12:31 PM

and presumably if he's able to get himself to a fast food place by himself, he should be well enough to understand the concept of money and paying for things

MTVN 27-02-2013 12:34 PM

I would drag him back to the till by his ear and make him pay the right amount, the cheeky git

Get Security to arrest him

search him to find out who is charge of him
Phone them - tell them to collect him
take all the shopping back

I agree with this.

No way would I be putting it in for him, especially given that if I am working in a fast food restaurant, chances are I have not much spare cash anyway. There is absolutely no reason for me to buy his food tbh..if hes there unsupervised you would expect that he is not mentally disabled enough to not understand the concept of paying for things, and if that makes me sound harsh so be it.

:joker::joker::joker:

I would let who ever was in charge know straight away and I definitely would not put the money in myself.

Kizzy 27-02-2013 12:47 PM

I would short change the next 9 people a quid.... hehehe

Amy Jade 27-02-2013 01:00 PM

I would take the food back, £10 is 8 jägerbombs I would be robbed of.

Thats a stupid and old fashioned way of thinking. People who have mental handicaps dont have to have someone in charge of them and can be well capable of living a normal life completely........

You do realise slavery is an outdated concept?
