Big Brother UK needs to step up their game.

If BBUK is to really impress the crowd this summer, they really need to really up their game. If you look at examples from around the world, they have a lot more to offer. Let's take a look at a few examples:
  • LIVE FEED - yes, were all sick of hearing about it, but it needs to be mentioned, so lets just get it over with. If you look at BB Canada, its their first season, and they have 4 live feeds to choose from, for free. They even have the opportunity to interact with the housemates via the live feed. Now I'm not saying that they should just copy BB Canada, bit they could build the live feed back into the red button like they did on E4, and then show it when the teleshopping slot is on 5*, or the SuperCasino slot on C5 through the night. Or even a couple of hours after the main show and then BOTS every night. What I'm aiming at is that it needs to be there more often than it is.
  • EDITING - the editing of the main show needs to go back to its roots. Take a look at BB Australia. It doesn't have a pop song when it opens, or any text effects or explosion sound effects. It only has the odd song where its needed. Not in every opening or every task, and not when there is an argument. They also also need less Marcus Bentley involvement. He has too much involvement in the narration, when we want to see what the housemates are doing. He also needs to calm down a bit during the tasks.
  • EVICTIONS -
the live evictions at the moment are not good enough. They need to have the live intros back rather than the VT at the beginning, or at least have one without narration in it, like in BB Australia. They also need to tone Marcus Bentley down here also, as he sounds like he is having a panic attack every time he introduces Brian, or telling housemates to leave the house, which leads me onto my next point. Marcus Bentley shouldn't be telling the housemates to leave the house, he is not Big Brother. They need to also put some sort of blockage between the house and the crowd, as the housemates can hear them through the wall. Perhaps the fence that they had in the C4 series or some soundproofing? They also need to have some crowd control when Brian is talking to the house and doing the interviews. We actually want to hear who is going to be evicted, and what they have to say after. While Jamie Sutcliffe may enjoy having the crow baying for blood, we don't. We also need a new outdoor set, Big Brother is coming into its third year with the Inital/C5 deal, and it hasn't changed, apart from getting rid of the lighting on the scaffolding, extending the screen onto the door, getting rid of the stairs on the runway and replacing them with a ramp and changing the eye on the presenter podium. It needs a new look. They also need to stop using those stupid jingles to go out to advert breaks on. They never did it on C4, why have they started doing it now?
  • LIVE LAUNCH/FINAL - they drag on SO MUCH. It seems as if its 15 hours rather than 1.5 hours. Now I know that the Celeb launch twist was amazing, but they'll probably go back to an earpiece task in the summer. They're boot good enough. Think of something more original! And they need to make the final more of a show! Just look at the BB Australia final, they even hadthe housemates do a dance routine! If they were to do this though, they can't do a camp-athon like the CBB10 launch. They need to put more effort into the final. And they need to stop putting montages at the end of the launch, we want to see the housemates getting on with each other, or the fallout of a task. And as for the end of the final, we want to see some fireworks! They're the best part! Confetti and iced smoke isn't good enough. The full on fireworks display at the end of a C4 finale could be seen from miles away!

This is just my opinion, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the subjects raised. Please feel free to comment below, and I'll try my best to reply!

I don't think anyone can argue with anything you've said.

Great post.

Yes, you are exactly right. However we all know that sadly Channel 5 wont listen. BBUK used to be far superior in my opinion to all the other versions yet I don't think that's true anymore. It's such a shame too because it has the potential to be really amazing again yet someone, either endemol or channel 5, are refusing to let that happen. If they want the show to have a future then some major changes are needed, and quickly!

Thanks RichardG, and I most definintely agree that BBUK was the best version.

I agree with all your points, C5 are only interested in making money from it though - they don't really care much about the fans.

I like it how it is. I agree with the Live feed and toning down Marcus Bentley.

Thanks Crispie, I think they're in it for the money, but they are also trying to reach out to a diffrerent crowd, but not the right one.

I agree, I'm sick to DEATH of the Towie style editing and ****ty same vein housemates year in year out now. We need more extravagants and varied people of varied ages.

They will never bring back live feed no matter what
That way they can edit the show to be anything they want

Thanks reece(:. Didn't think about the name tags, I guess they're ok in the first few weeks, but they don't need to put them when a name is mentioned and its obviously them. And we do need more varied ages, the reason Victoria left was because she was the only older one and that's why she didn't do that much.

Therein lies the problem. What Sutcliffe says goes, and quite frankly, I disagree with every creative decision he has going.

I dont think they make it exactly like BBUK C4 but with a few hints of it. For example Get rid of that stupid eye stage and curved stairs, Like come on. They could always put up for the final! Also what ever happened to the part of an eviction/ launch night, where the presenter would say "See you (whenever) and it would cut to housemates talking and mingling with each other as the credits roll.

reece(: 03-03-2013 12:02 AM

What has been forgotten as well is the host - Brian is and always has been as a host, useless.

armand.kay 03-03-2013 01:03 AM

Tbh I'm kind of over the c4 editing I can see why c5 changed it they want to revamp the show, it's obvious if they had kept bb c4 would of went this way eventually (maybe bait least tacky). I think if they want the mot angles and all that crap they should go the American way of editing instead of towie.
I'm also over live feed I really don't care anymore it's obvious c5 don't care so why should I.
They need to sort out the host, the crowd and the narrator. :D

Thanks Munchkins, the countdown on the door I don't mind but the music that is played is so out of cue, and you cant hear what the crowd think!

Thanks Tregard, me too! The evictions at the moment are below par.

Thanks Biggest Brother Fan ever, agree with your points, but they always do have it cut to live feed after an eviction.

Thanks again reece(:, as terrible as Brian is, they'll never get rid of him as long as they have the directors that they have at the moment.

Thanks armand.kay, I never really like the way that americans edit their reality shows, but I definitely agree that they need to sort out Brian and Marcus!

I hope they can at least get a good mix of characters.

Thanks Vanessa, me too! They have been the same in the past few Civilian versions, but I find it weird how they have had some older people in the most recent Celebrity versions. :conf:
