Should Parts of the forum be hidden to guests?

It might save on quite a lot of drama :pipe:

Guests can view the BB part of the site but if they want to see anything that isn't BB related they have to sign up, people who join don't generally start posting straight away in C&G it's more of a transition when BB ends

Plus I don't really like the idea of people who aren't even members viewing pictures I or other members have posted in MTM

Josy 24-03-2013 11:07 PM

Yeah I think the chat sections should be members only, especially mtm etc.

I'm sure we had a thread about this before.

Novo 24-03-2013 11:08 PM

Guests can't view MTM anyway can they? thought they can't view any thread with over 1000 posts or something like that

InOne 24-03-2013 11:09 PM

Yes, only BB parts. Been on other forums that do similar things and it seems to work

Jack_ 24-03-2013 11:14 PM

Yeah, decent idea. Though I do quite also like the idea I came up with of members being banned from certain threads (as opposed to the entire forum) for maybe a couple of hours or days if trouble is being caused, I think that might work better, that's if there's any way to implement it of course.

Meh, they'd only cause drama in a different thread if they were banned from another

Marsh. 24-03-2013 11:21 PM

Saying "they" as though it doesn't involve yourself. :hmph:

joeysteele 24-03-2013 11:25 PM

I don't know, when I was looking for a forum that I liked, I enjoyed for a time seeing the whole variety of this forum on offer.
If I had been only able to see, say, the BB threads then I may well have got a shock after joining once seeing the other arears of the forum,I may even have not joined.
For me personally, I don't mind arguing,I try not to myself but sometimes you have to react at times in defending yourself.

Having said that, looking at only the BB threads anyway, you see plenty discord there between members as is natural with so many different housemates involved and differring opinions from members too.

I also have to say, I do like Jack's kind of 'time out' idea of a thread where arguments are raging and the members involved are only allowed there in order to maybe get things said and then cool down.
Often,I would think anyway, a clear ban in such situations can fuel dissension on return and increase bad feeling too at least some of the time rather than cure the problem.

And then you ban them from the whole forum.

reece(: 24-03-2013 11:33 PM

YES, this may get people in who don't particularly like some humour in C&G or drama. It is predominantly a Big Brother forum afterall.

Smithy 24-03-2013 11:35 PM

If anything it'd make more people sign up (which can only be a good thing?) cause they'd join to see the rest of the forum

How would they know another part existed if they're blocked from seeing it?

Jords 25-03-2013 06:10 PM

Its not hidden but when they click it comes up with 'have to be a member to view this section of the forum' or words to that effect

Glenn. 25-03-2013 06:42 PM

Yes. I don't think you should be able to view without joining as a membr

thesheriff443 25-03-2013 06:54 PM

this is not a top secret site, people sign up and they still don't post!

Looks like the paranoia has kicked in.

Mystic Mock 27-03-2013 07:40 PM

No as how are they suppose to know if they like the Forum or not if they have to sign up to view it?

I agree, that is how I made my mind up to join, I was obviously interested in Big Brother but when I saw all the other sections on the forum it made it far more appealing to join.

[2]. The forum in general has gone crap anyway.

Raph 28-03-2013 03:30 PM

I think that's an excellent idea Smithy

InOne 28-03-2013 03:34 PM

Hmmm thinking again, the BB section isn't really active. People might think it's just a dead forum or something. Don't think there's enough activity to do stuff like that now.
