Actor Clive Mantle, who has appeared in the likes of 'Game of Thrones' and 'Casualty', is recovering after having part of his ear bitten off during a fight. The altercation took place at a Travelodge in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, after Mantle asked a group of guests outside his room to keep the noise down fight then broke out, with another man biting off part of Mantle's ear in the scuffle. His agent has confirmed that he was taken to hospital, where the missing part was then successfully sewn back on. A 32-year-old man from Hamilton in Scotland was arrested and charged with wounding with intent, and will go before a magistrate next month. A spokesperson for Mantle said: “He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened. You don’t expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel. “The part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr Mantle said the police, ambulance and hospital staff were amazing.” He had just finished an appearance in a production of 'The Ladykillers' at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle when the fight took place. Speaking to The Stage magazine, the head of production for the play Jon Bath said the incident was 'horrifying and disgusting and has shaken everyone up'. Mantle played surgeon Mike Barrett in both 'Casualty' and 'Holby City' through the 90s until 2001, and recently played Robb Stark's ally Lord Greatjon Umber in 'Game of Thrones'. The 6ft, 5in actor also played Little John in the 80s series 'Robin of Sherwood'. |
