Why would mens bowel cancer be up so much,is it because they don't report symptoms as quickly as women?

its probably a lot of reason. men work longer hours and for more years. theres also more economic pressure on them plus there are 10000s fewer support agencies for men.

Livia 02-04-2013 01:28 PM

... and they don't like to go to the doctor. Women are far more willing to check something out whereas men generally don't.

because of the economic social prsssures on men and the vastly less support agencies and male cancer promotions than their female counterparts.

My father had bowel cancer and thankfully he recovered completely. He went to the doctor early because he was a paramedic and didn't have any fear of doctors and hospitals. The surgeon who treated my father said that if only more men would come forward earlier they would have a much higher survival rate.

Men have no more economic and social pressures than women do these days, and yes, perhaps there are fewer agencies to promote charities and awareness for men, but that's because women have set up these charities themselves. If more men got together to set up charities and awareness groups perhaps the death figure wouldn't be so high and I wouldn't feel like I should be apologising to you because more women live than die.

I havn't seen a doctor in a non-emergency situation in over 8 years.

I would agree with this.

I am also really glad your Dad got it seen to quickly Livia.

My sister in law died from bowel cancer 3yrs ago, the ads on the TV and in the media are not gender specific, men are as said prob less likely to have an embarrassing issue addressed.

I didnt ask you for an apology, a bit of empathy and understanding would of course be expected of any decent human being. men have more economic pressures than women still. Its factual and cultural. men lose their homes in over 80% of seperations, men work longer hours and for more years than women. but women have a greater spending power due to the culture of men handing much of their wages to their wives. men also lose the majority of divorce cases and therefore lose custody of their children and their home, yet have to pay the mother of their children payments who then go on to new partners and have 2 incomes. culturally men are still expected to work, they do not have the option women have of having muliple children and living off benefits.

men of course die younger and work longer several years younger than women on every nation on earth and commit suicide at 4 times the rate of women. the actual support organizations for women outnumber mens by over 50 to 1. the difference in support is staggering. virtually every news report is followed by its effect on women. barely a mention of men. men are more and more powerless yet have to work longer than ever. they have less support than ever. this is not just charities this is government money thats paying for the imbalance of support agencies for women over men. this disparity needs to be addressed.

even with abortion 1 million aborted babies in the UK every 6 years one of the highest rates in the world) mothers have enormous support, yet those million men who have had their children aborted without them having any input in the matter at all, are offered no counselling whatsoever. or take male soldiers at war for years on the front line fighting suicide bombers, terrorists in the desert and whats their reward? they get come and there are no military hospitals left? so they end up in the same hospitals as everyone else?

america has over 1000 hospitals for the army/navy etc

meanwhile the nhs provides free boobs for page 3 strippers who claim without them theyll be depressed.

Uk is a womans world and nobody cares

the truth 02-04-2013 03:57 PM

There is eight times as much money spent on specific female health issues as on male ones. Women are screened for breast cancer and cervical cancer, and will soon be screened for ovarian cancer. But there is no screening programme for prostate cancer

the truth 02-04-2013 04:11 PM

america is similar but the divide is not quite as disgracefully large as the UK where the amount of funding for womens health and cancer especially over men is an utter disgrace....its discrimination plain and simple.

Men die six years sooner than women. There are more than four widows for every widower.

So, it would only seem fair that more health research and health education dollars be spent on men than on women. Yet in the budget of every federal health agency, more money is spent on women’s health than on men’s. There are seven federal health agencies specifically for women. Not one for men. 39 of the 50 states have an office of women’s health, only six have one for men. A search of more than 3,000 medical journals listed in Index Medicus found that 23 articles were written on women’s health for each one written on men’s. Although a woman is only 14 percent more likely to die from breast cancer than a man is from prostate cancer, funding for breast cancer research is 660 percent greater than funding for prostate cancer research. Even the post office has gotten into the act: there is only one disease for which you can buy a postage stamp and the profits will go to research to cure the disease: breast cancer, even though heart disease kills millions more men prematurely. Before the age of 65, men die of heart attacks at three times the rate of women.

the truth 02-04-2013 04:18 PM

the actual amount spent on UK cancer research in 2010 was over twice as much on women as men, despite the fact more men died of cancer. a similar story in the US

Kizzy 02-04-2013 04:25 PM

Evidence of this, or is it your skewed opinion?

The UK is not a womans world.

Women are also fighting the same people that men are.
Single women are also bringing up children alone
Women are earning less than men.
Men should lose their homes if the alternative is to turf a mother and child out on to the street.

It's just a load of special pleading from you. Again. Oh no, us white men have it sooooooooo bad. Won't someone help us.

You know what. If the stresses of work and life are too great, take a demotion that's better for a work-life balance. Lot's of men cope perfectly well with day to day life without requesting special treatment.

One last thing, soldiers are soldiers by choice. They weren't drafted into the army, and no one forced them. They went into that career knowing what the potential consequences could be.

I don't care about our troops over and above other members in society. They aren't protecting our freedom, they are fighting illegal wars.

most of what Ive written is copied and pasted from cancer / health websites. look it up. the only argument men haters use is, oh men should group and sort it out etc thats discrimination plain and simple. the amounts of state funding especially should be the same per head of cancer sufferer. yet women have a massively higher chance of survival due to the massive disparity in investment, promotion and support agencies. basically a mans life is valued way lower. its an absolute disgrace and nobody cares.

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...2105005AAXHMlV

http://www.thebureauinvestigates.com...imed-at-women/

The Bureau asked all local councils in London to disclose how much they had spent on third sector men’s and women’s services in the last five years, for example, in grants to charities or voluntary groups.

The largest disparity in funding was in Barking and Dagenham, where nearly £4.8m more was spent on women’s services. Men’s life expectancy in this borough is the sixth lowest in the capital.
Of the councils that provided a response, three times more was spent on services aimed at or predominantly used by women (£20,111,866.20), than men (£6,022,289.62).

The Bureau sent out freedom of information requests to Greater London’s 32 Primary Care Trusts and the capital’s councils. We asked them to disclose how much they paid for health and wellbeing services outside the NHS broken down by gender.

Of those that replied, only four borough PCTs commissioned specifically men’s services (at a cost of £11,135,291), while 15 PCTs commissioned women’s services (at a cost of between £13,156,785 and £13,429,785).

For those with gender-based services that replied, women’s health services received £1,775,766 to £2,048,766 more funding than men’s over the past five years. There is a range because some PCTs would only disclose that an amount between two figures was spent, rather than a specific figure (eg £50,000 – £100,000).

The disparity in spending among PCTs was greatest in Brent, where nearly £3.5m was spent on female-focused third sector initiatives over the past five years, and nothing spent on men’s. Yet male life expectancy in Stonebridge, Brent, is just 73.5 years, five years below the national average.

this has been getting worse nationally for 12 years or more
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2001/jan/08/health

The largest disparity in funding was in Barking and Dagenham, where nearly £4.8m more was spent on women’s services. Men’s life expectancy in this borough is the sixth lowest in the capital.
Three of the wards with a large life-expectancy gap lie in Hammersmith and Fulham, where, borough-wide, the average life expectancy disparity between men and women is 6.5 years. In three of its 18 wards, the gap is 10 years or more.

However, in 2011/12 Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council spent £2,282,022 on third sector services primarily used by women, and just £282,970 on third sector services targeted at or primarily used by men — eight times as much was spent on female focused services.

Why would anyone try to turn the fight against cancer into a suggestion that there is a discrepancy in the way it is researched?
Just stop....

men dont think they rule the world, thats simply untrue
men know they are being screwed over, they work longer, harder give more away to their families, die many years younger, commit suicide at 4 times the rate, die of cancer far more, get way less financial support for researching and treating male cancer, massively underfunded cancer and health for male issues too, men claim less in benefits, lose their family homes in 80% divorces, lose their children in 80% divorvces, have no support after their girlfriends and wives choose to abort their future children, have way less support in every other facet of life. the only reason they get the 1 supposed advantage left, is they get paid on average a tiny bit more per hour, is purley because they stick at the same job for longer, uninterrupted and for more hours. thus they bcome more spcialized in their jobs and get paid more, which is simple economics and is perfectly fair

otherwise theyre being screwed into the ground and no one cares
