Glenda Jackson Or Margaret Thatcher: Can You Tell Who Said It? (QUIZ)

Quote:

Labour MP and Oscar-winning actress Glenda Jackson attacked Margaret Thatcher during tributes to the former PM on Wednesday, describing her as "not a woman on my terms."

The MP for Hampstead and Kilburn angrily denounced Thatcher for promoting "greed, selfishness and no care for the weaker" adding "she wreaked heinous spiritual damage on this country."

Over shouts of "sit down Glenda" from Tory MPs, Jackson bucked cross-party appreciation of Thatcher saying many women who she grew up with "would not have recognised their definition of womanliness" in the late leader.

It was a powerful speech, and one with ardour to rival the former PM's impassioned rallies to the Commons more than 20 years ago.

Indeed, rifling through a back catalogue of their interview and speeches, it is difficult to tell who said what.

So can you tell Glenda Jackson from Margaret Thatcher? Take our 'who said it quiz' below?

Glenda Jackson was a brilliant actress especially when she played Elizabeth 1.

She made some really good films, however as an MP she has been rather a disappointment as to the commons performances over the years, until yesterday.

I defend fully her right to say what she thought and where she said it too amidst some of the nauseating tributes from many MPs who even were likely ones who planned and helped destroy Margaret Thatchers time as PM and get rid of her.

IIRC, she played Queen Elizabeth I in the BBC's 1971 blockbuster serial, Elizabeth R and Queen Elizabeth I again in Universal Pictures' 1971 film "Mary, Queen of Scots".

Glenda Jackson: 'I had to speak out to stop history being re-written'

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk...n-8569392.html

Quote:

Glenda Jackson, the Labour MP who stole the show during Commons tributes to Margaret Thatcher, claimed that messages coming in from the public were ten-to-one in her favour.

Her Commons staff spent today working through 900 emails. Of the first 400 they opened, they counted 372 that supported her attack on the late Prime Minister, the rest against.

She was unrepentant about her attack on the “heinous social, economic and spiritual damage” which she said that Mrs Thatcher had wreaked upon the UK during her premiership, which caused uproar when she delivered it. Many Tories were particularly outraged by her comment: “The first Prime Minister of female gender, OK. But a woman? Not on my terms.”

But Ms Jackson insisted: “I was meticulous in not being personally rude. I didn’t know the woman: I did know the policies. I spoke up because history has been rewritten over the past week. I lived through the Thatcher period. I know what it was like. I know what it was like for my constituents. The reality bore no resemblance to what’s being presented.”
Good for Glenda ..... :pipe:

I think she was an amazing actress.
Well done to her too for putting the other side to this debate and for also not being afraid to do so.
