Asda Creates 2,500 Jobs Amid Online Boom

This is good news

[Asda is to create 2,500 jobs this year
as it shifts investment to its
growing multichannel business, with stores
supporting its internet and smartphone channels.
The company said it would spend £700m
on new and existing stores and its
supply chain, with its website also
benefiting from the investment.
The news was announced as the retailer
confirmed a 4.5% lift in total sales,
including petrol, to £22.8bn in 2012.
Andy Clarke, President and CEO of Asda
said: "I’m proud that in the continuing and
very challenging trading environment we were able
to increase total sales by 4.5% last year.
This shows that we are continuing to get it right for customers.]

Considering asda is part of the workfare scheme..I wonder how many of these will be 'paying' jobs and how many will be free labour :suspect:

More useless pointless services jobs for low paid workers, created in part to boost the company's growth profile and share forecast as well as reducing the Govt's overall unemployment figures.

Where are the real jobs that will create wealth for the Country ??

Livia 23-04-2013 01:39 PM

I'm not sure that most of the people who work in supermarkets would agree that their jobs are pointless and useless.

Nedusa 23-04-2013 02:47 PM

Whats the point of opening more and more supermarkets if nobody has any money to spend.........!!!!

I don't think these jobs are pointless and useless to the people who have them but to the GDP of the Country and the balance of trade/export figures, services jobs like these do not produce anything the Country can sell on the open market, no profit can be made and there is no knock on effect in terms of wealth generation.

Govt figures released today show that Britain had to borrow over £100 Billion just to balance the books for the Financial year just finished. Thats not to even mention the National Debt which is in the Trillions...... As a country we are broke, we are borrowing just to survive and then the interset on that £100 Billion will also have to be paid back by future generations.

But How...??? when we are not generating any wealth/Trade surplus....!!!!

Yes Less Money
more reason to buy shopping in full at AsdaWalmart.

And if you get more money
