Starting on Monday 29 April, 5,000 Britons will be challenging themselves to live on just £1 a day for five days, as part of a campaign by the Global Poverty Project.

Could you do this?

Niamh. 29-04-2013 12:07 PM

Is that even possible?

Josy 29-04-2013 12:08 PM

Well reading through the menus yes it is possible but I would be bored of it before the first day was over if i'm honest.

Ammi 29-04-2013 12:10 PM

..where were the menus Josy..?..I didn't see them...

Niamh. 29-04-2013 12:10 PM

there's no way you'd get a scone over here for 5p, that's for sure

Lee. 29-04-2013 12:11 PM

I don't think I'd manage this at all.. but I'd be interested to see some of the dinners they had as I sometimes struggle to think of economical, healthy dinners

Ammi 29-04-2013 12:15 PM

..don't worry I saw them..I hadn't scrolled down and just gave up too easily at scone...what would be healthy in a scone..?...

..I guess you could do it if you were buying for a family and say two weeks or so at a time because you can't buy things by portions like that..but that would mean eating lots of the same things every day...I'm not sure if that lack of variety would be healthy either...

..mind you I can talk because I've got a rubbish diet and hardly eat anything different...

Niamh. 29-04-2013 12:18 PM

You wouldn't be able to have any meat either

King Gizzard 29-04-2013 12:22 PM

Nah

Ammi 29-04-2013 12:23 PM

..oh, I was just about to say that it would be different for males/females because males do eat more and that depends on their size as well and up pops Nathan lol...

King Gizzard 29-04-2013 12:24 PM

I'm probably the person who needs to consume the most amount of food on the entire planet

Ammi 29-04-2013 12:27 PM

..well, you might need £2 then..you'll only live half as long as everyone else, so you won't have to worry about being hungry...

I think they are working it out weekly tbh like they will by a pack of scones for say 50p and work out how much 1 costs, at least I think thats what they are doing.

Yeah they must be actually, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to have a sandwich

Brother Leon 29-04-2013 01:04 PM

I live in London...like hell am I trying this. :joker:

Kazanne 29-04-2013 02:37 PM

Is this just one person? I think its possible to live on £1 foodwise, for one day, you'de have to shop around but I'm sure it could be done

lostalex 29-04-2013 02:39 PM

Are they going to monitor them like they do on "Secret eaters"? there's gonna be A LOT of cheating otherwise.

There's no way i could live on $1.55 a day. Just 1 can of soup costs more than $1.55 and you can't live on just 1 can of soup a day.

Jesus. 29-04-2013 02:59 PM

I probably could. Just buy 2/3 boxes of cereals and weetabix.

My cat would rip out my throat if he had to though!

No Animals are not part of the Budget
someone else would have to feed it.

Vicky. 29-04-2013 03:26 PM

For 5 days? Yeah sure I could. Big box of frosties, large bag of potatoes.

Long term, no I couldnt.

lostalex 29-04-2013 03:29 PM

Ben Affleck is doing it.

InOne 29-04-2013 04:36 PM
