Two men have been found guilty of raping a 14-year-old boy in a city centre department store's toilets.

Alex Wilson-Fletcher, 42, of Oldham Street, Manchester, and Abdelkader El-Janabi, 55, of Artillery Court, Ardwick, attacked the boy in Debenhams on Manchester's Market Street in June.

The men approached the boy in the nearby Arndale Centre before leading him to the Debenhams store.

They were convicted at Manchester Crown Court and will be sentenced on 6 June.

In court, the boy said the pair had approached him in the toilets of the Arndale Centre on 2 June and El-Janabi had grabbed his arm and told him to follow him.

He said El-Janabi had then led him out of the shopping centre and across the road to the Debenhams store, where he walked him to the third floor toilets, followed by Wilson-Fletcher.

Once inside, El-Janabi and Wilson-Fletcher both touched him before El-Janabi raped him.

He managed to escape the pair and fled the toilets, doing up his trousers as he ran, and reported the incident to police later that night.

Substantial sentences

In defence, Wilson-Fletcher said he had been in both the Arndale and Debenhams toilets at the time of the incident, but had not seen or done anything, while El-Janabi denied being at the scene at all.

CCTV placed both men in the shopping centre and the department store and also captured the moment the boy ran from the toilets after the rape had taken place.

Images of the pair taken from CCTV were released to the media, which led Wilson-Fletcher to hand himself in to police.

El-Janabi was identified by the caretaker of the block of flats where he lived and by a man who had previously played football against him.

Both men were warned by the judge to expect substantial prison sentences.

Vile men. I hope their victim is OK now, but understandably it will affect him for the rest of his life:(.

Unbelievable, that these men went out to do some shopping and saw an opportunity to indulge in a spot of child rape as well.....!!!!

What sort of depraved sick people are living in this country...I'm appalled by stories like these.

Ah,that poor lad,wtf is wrong with some people who can only seem to get their rocks off by destroying someone else.I hope they get a hefty sentence, but not holding my breath!!

Omah 29-04-2013 02:13 PM

They should get 10-15 years ..... :pipe:

I'm curious what they said to get the boy to go with them in the first place, seems a bit odd that he'd willing go with two strangers to another shop...? Either way, hope they're sentenced harshly, that's absolutely awful.

Mystic Mock 29-04-2013 04:22 PM

They will probably get 5 years in prison and probably be out in 2 years for good behaviour.

He WASN'T willing :

The attack happened when the 14-year-old victim visited the Arndale centre in Manchester city centre on Saturday, June 2.

He was using a public toilet in the mall when he became aware of two men staring at him.

Suddenly one of the men approached him and said: ‘Come with us, do what we say and if you try to run, we’ll get you.’

The boy was then frogmarched by the men – one white and the other Asian – outside.

Led by the arm, he was forcibly taken about 50 yards away to the nearby Debenhams store.

As shoppers and staff walked around the four-storey department store, oblivious to the boy’s ordeal, the teenager was forced into a lift by the two men.

He was taken by the lift upstairs, where he was marched into a men’s toilet and raped by the Asian man.

Oh right, the original article didn't make it so clear what had happened. That's awful :(

It's crazy to me how these child molestors seem to form groups. they basically are all pedo's and then they share their victims with each other. It really is the definition of evil.

How are they meeting each other and forming these groups? It must be Online right? The police need to do a better job of monitoring online pedophile groups. this is one area where the internet really should be monitored.

They're probably more likely to be the rapists in prison. They'll probably have a field day.

'He was using a public toilet in the mall when he became aware of two men staring at him.'

That makes this story even creepier :( how very sad

I remember the original story (24 August 2012) - it was just before this one (21 September 2012) :

Asda Sex Attack: Boy, 4, Assaulted In Toilet

AnnieK 29-04-2013 05:30 PM

Its so awful. They must have threatened him pretty badly as Debenhams in Manchester is always busy so he didn't feel he could ask for help. Poor boy, I hope he has had lots of help and counselling although he will never get over it I hope he is able to move on and it doesn't shape his life forever. In my mind this sort if crime should carry mandatory sentences of at least 15 years as they have destroyed his life.

Jake. 29-04-2013 05:34 PM

Just awful, that poor kid and his parents, now they will no doubt go through life doubting themselves... it's all just awful, lock them up and throw away the key

Men jailed over rape of boy, 14, in Manchester Debenhams

Two men have been jailed for 15 years for raping a boy, 14, in the toilets of a Manchester department store.

Alex Wilson-Fletcher, 42, of Oldham Street, Manchester; and Abdelkader El-Janabi, 55, of Artillery Court, Ardwick; attacked the teenager in June.

The men approached the boy in the Arndale Centre before leading him to the Debenhams store on Market Street.

Manchester Crown Court heard El-Janabi was a former intelligence officer in Saddam Hussein's Iraqi regime.

A "sustained attack" took place on the boy after he was marched to the toilets of the store on a busy Saturday afternoon, the jury was told.

The boy then reported the attack and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) launched a public appeal to trace the offenders, including issuing CCTV images of the suspects.

El-Janabi and Wilson-Fletcher, a law firm worker, were tracked down after images from CCTV were circulated around the UK by police.
Justice in the courts and, hopefully, some "retribution" in prison ..... :pipe:
