Big Brother 2013 superfan (and new host) Emma Willis has called on bosses to put in more older housemates this year.

The first ever series of Big Brother on Channel 5 two years ago saw all the wannabes aged 30 or under, a move which producers admitted last year was a mistake.

And Emma agrees, saying she too wants to see a better mix of contestants in the summer.

She said: “Big Brother will get a really good mix of characters, the last civilian one was good but there wasn’t a diverse enough group of characters, they were all quiet similar same age.

“I’m hoping this one will bring a more varied bag of people. I’d like to see some older housemates.”

However Emma’s reasons for wanting older housemates are rather practical: simply because they’ll be sure to clean up the house!

She added: “Older contestants add a different dimension, we saw that in the last series that you need to have some form of boundaries, otherwise you just live in a crap hole.

“You need a mother figure you need some form of discipline in the house.

“It’s also interesting to see people of different ages and how they interact in the house rather than just a bunch of people who are the same age.”

Big Brother 2013 returns to Channel 5 in June.

I'd love to see more older housemates. They can be fun too. Carol always made me laugh so much. :joker:

I'm a bit weary of the older housemates thing, I don't want another BB8. I'm all for a few 40/45 year olds, but no older than that.

We need some people over 35.

I would say 35 to 50.

I don't really think what age a HM is matters, what matters is whether they're interesting/entertaining. So what I want is less of the young bimbo/himbo/wannabe TOWIE stars and anyone with an agent tbh

Just give us variety of housemates, age being one factor to vary.

I agree a mix of different people would be great. Victoria last year was 41 but again too similar to the others. If they had off put in the guy with the top hat and flute instead of Becky it would of added something different. :)

You need energetic people in there 30-40s though. Don't put in someone that's going to be useless in the challenges and just an eyesore all season around.

I only want older housemates if they are the Angel/Marcus/Derek/Lisa(BB9) etc type. Cooky and entertaining.

Mix Derek, Lesley, Victoria, Ahmed and Mario together and you have the perfect older HM.

Sounds like she wants another Carole.

Given the last few series, anyone over 28 is classed as an "older" housemate. :laugh:
