Generalizing (recent incidents)

Hello everyone.

I am on one a bit today, because I am APPALLED to the reaction of recent events that happened in Woolwich earlier this week. The incident was ghastly, terrifying and damn right wrong - but there is no need to generalize a whole society for it, and blame them. I have heard many people say kick all the Muslim's out etc. - ITS WRONG.

You cant blame a whole society or race or religion for one extreme act of violence because of an individual. People are people, everyone's different. People can believe the same thing but not go to the extreme measures like this. If I killed someone, then you killed someone - and people go 'kick all the gays out' because two gay people happened to kill someone - you would hate to be put in the same category as someone who kills someone, just because we both happen to be gay. Hate the INDIVIDUAL not the BELIEF. Everyone has a right to live here legally, everyone has a right to believe what they want to believe - It's just how its acted upon that makes all the difference.

These people who come here, and work really hard and adapt to the British way of living, and the majority are just like any other British person. The person that did this is British, you can tell from the accent, they were born and grew up here with hardly any influence from their family's origin or their religion as they live in a society where there are lots of different beliefs, and lots of different opportunities to develop your own beliefs - and how to act upon it.

If your going to have this mind frame, you should agree that we should get rid of all the old people because some of them are being accused of pedophilia as of late.

Sorry for the rant, your thoughts on this matter?

No, I generally agree with you. I kinda agreed with Kathryn Prescott's (she played Emily in Skins <3) views on Twitter today:

Quote:

This has become another excuse for racism, you have to be mentally ill to hack someone to death in the street. Maybe if we focused more..

On the quality and availability of mental health care and how children are educated and bought up rather than how best to ...

punish such crimes after they happen, we wouldn't be so desperate

to blame entire groups of people for the acts of mentally disturbed individuals

She's got a good head on her it seems

yeah, i agree with what she said.
Focus on the source and trying to prevent it than blaming people.

I agree with what Jack has posted aswell....it was a terrible, terrible, sickening thing to happen but to blame a whole group of society is just plain wrong.

The only people I see blaming all Muslims is a very small but unfortunately loud section of society. Most people I'm sure understand that there is Islam, and there are extremists. Although they are linked by the same religion, they are in no way alike. I've heard endless condemnation this week of the murder in Woolwich, from Muslims all over the country. They don't want their religion sullied like this, and many of them stood straight up and condemned it. If people are blaming this vile act on all Muslims, then those people are stupid.

You're not planning on buying a balaclava with EDL on it then Conzors  I read somewhere a few months back that Muslims are the new Irish in Britain. There used to be a section of British society who thought all Irish people were fully paid up members of the IRA, thankfully it was just a small section, it seems that small section have now transferred their hatred onto Muslims, such is life unfortunately.
