after a Taxi ran into him.

"Police tried to disperse the protesters with tear gas and water cannon as Monday morning commuters attempted to dodge clashes on their way to work.
Bandana-clad youths ran at and kicked shop barriers, which were already covered in graffiti, as a local businessman tried to prevent the destruction.
Ordinary Turks tried to go about their business wearing masks as tear gas rose around them.
Protesters had clashed with riot police into the early hours of Monday with some setting fire to offices of the ruling AK Party."

This is all about a new shopping mall? Hmmm, I don't think so.

Erdogan may have admitted, grudgingly, that his police forces overreacted. Yet he can do no better than accuse the protesters, derided as "looters", of being "linked with terror" and having "dark ties"; their sole aim would be to cost the AKP votes in the 2015 parliamentary elections. He bragged he could bring out a million AKP supporters to the streets for every 100,000 protesters. Well, 5,000 of them have already managed to throw stones at his office in Besiktas.

Protests have already spread to Izmir, Eskisehir, Mugla, Yalova, Antalya, Bolu, Adana and even AKP strongholds such as Ankara, Kayseri and Konya. They are at the tens of thousands. As car horns and residents banging pots and pans from balconies supporting the protests are now to be heard every night in Ankara and Istanbul (even in sleepy residential areas on the Asian side), this may be reaching hundreds of thousands.

There's no question the Taksim Square/Occupy Gezi/Down with the Dictator movement is quickly expanding to a cross-section of secular Turkey totally opposed to the AKP and Erdogan's highly personalized/autocratic mix of hardcore neoliberalism and conservative religion.

Secular Turks also clearly see how Erdogan is trying to milk all he can from a hazy "peace process" with the Kurdish PKK so he can amass enough votes for a constitutional referendum. The referendum would erase the parliamentary system and install a presidential system - very handy as Erdogan's term as prime minister expires in 2015, and he yearns to remain in the helm as president.

Erdogan may have a solid majority across conservative Anatolia. But he may also be playing with fire. This is a man who over two years ago was yelling, "Mubarak must listen to his people" - and so should Assad in Syria. Now the majority of Turks totally reject Ankara's "logistical support" for the "rebel" Syrian gangs.

The irony cherry in the cake is Damascus, now gleefully warning Erdogan to curb the violent repression, listen to "his people", or resign.

What next? Erdogan installs a no-fly zone over Istanbul (or the North Atlantic Treaty Organization installs a no-fly zone over Erdogan)? The Turkish "rebels" receive direct support from Damascus, Tehran and Hezbollah? Damascus calls for a "Friends of Turkey" international get-together?

Turkey's Deputy PM Bulent Arinc has apologised to protesters injured in demonstrations opposing the demolition of an Istanbul park.He called for the protests to end, saying they had been taken over by "terrorist elements".

The protests have escalated into five days of unrest in cities across Turkey.

Clearly the Turkish Government is getting pretty worried now about how events have begun to escalate. You would have thought the Prime Minister himself Mr Erdogan would have apologised....!!!!

How arrogant of the Turkish Govt , they have decided the protest is over so they will now up the levels of force to clear the square...!!!

They don't get it not at all this is like pouring petrol on the fire, things will now rapidly spiral out of control and Turkey will descend into virtual Civil war. There may even be a military coup , all of this because the Turkish PM thinks apologising is beneath him....!!!

I think if Turkey was allowed to join the EU it would be a good stabilizing force for that country. I think it's kinda messed up that the EU keeps rejecting them, it's like they are trying to FORCE Turkey into the arab world. I personally don't think Turkey should be lumped in with the other Muslim countries. They are much more westernized than people realize. They're certainly no worse than Greece.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a "final warning" to protesters to leave Gezi Park in Istanbul.

"Our patience is at an end. I am making my warning for the last time," he said.

Clashes between police and protesters in the park and adjoining Taksim Square have continued for nearly two weeks.

Activists have said they will not leave Gezi Park until the government abandons plans to redevelop it. Mr Erdogan has promised a local vote on its future.

Such a plebiscite would not be legally binding but Mr Erdogan implied he would honour its outcome.

"I say to the mothers and fathers please take your children in hand and bring them out," Mr Erdogan declared.

"We cannot wait any more because Gezi Park does not belong to occupying forces but to the people."

His speech at a meeting of his ruling AK Party in the capital, Ankara, received a standing ovation.

This man is taking a serious gamble here, if it fails and tens of people die at the hands of the Police then the situation in Turkey will escalate into never before scenes of violence and bloodshed.

I hope he realises the serious consequences of his actions should this all go pear shaped...!!!
