it depends, if its from a child's orphanage then you hand it back without question, but if its drug money then dream on.

Ammi 09-06-2013 08:07 AM

..it's just really a hypothetical thing and you wouldn't know...it would just be a bag full of money....

if you don't know then its without guilt.

Ammi 09-06-2013 08:11 AM

..so would you take it or hand it in then, Sheriff..?...

common sense says take it, so I would, but this does not mean I am with out morals, I have picked up wallets filled with cash and handed them back to there owners.

Ammi 09-06-2013 08:24 AM

..no, I don't think it necessarily indicates that you are without morals...and everyone's circumstances are different as well and I think there would be lots of things that someone would take into consideration when deciding, if it was kind of a 'no consequence' thing..it's just quite an interesting dilemma...

joeysteele 09-06-2013 08:46 AM

I really don't know, been thinking onthis one for 20 inutes now.
I am honest as far as I can be but a bag full of money is a real poser.

I had a friend who when we were about 15 found a wallet which had a lot of money in,he never counted it or touched it, obviously he did the wallet.
The wallet had no name on it.
he took it to the police station, handed it in,they then a few days later said someone claimed it, saying some notes were missing.
It was a good thing I had been there with him to confirm he hadn't done anything else other than look inside then hand it in.
They believed him and me and I understand the 'owner' was told to be grateful he had it back and the owner refused to take it any further.
My friend though swore he would never hand anything in again.

So,with that in mind, as to finding a bag of money that someone has likely carelessly lost with no name in it or any identifaction at all, then would I hand it into the police station,I'd like to think I would but I also doubt it.

It is a dilemma, Ammi you really test us at times. Good one this.

Hmm.. Depends how much it was tbh.

I found 300 pounds once and argued with myself for a bit but then realised that it might actually be an old lady's pension that shed been saving or something, so I handed it into the police. I think it was claimed, but I don't know who by.

Cherie 09-06-2013 08:52 AM

I think in all honesty I would have to hand it in, I couldn't live with the guilt as it could be someones life savings or something.

Vicky. 09-06-2013 08:53 AM

I would keep it.

lol straight to the point.

I think if I found a bag with a serious amount of money I would assume that it would be related to crime so I'd keep it.

I would like to say I would hand it in, but I know I wouldnt. Hell some days I even wish to find a bag full of cash just lying around :D

:hugesmile:Nice one Vicky.

I've always said to myself I'd hand it in in a situation like this. But if I needed the money for something serious, for my family or a loved one, I'd see the benefit in keeping it.

My bosses wife recently lost a bag of money in town and no body handed it in.

Petershaw1984 09-06-2013 09:45 AM

I woukd keep it. Even if i knew who had dropped it I would probably keep it. They only tine I f hand it in is if it were a single psrent that dropped ir

Marc 09-06-2013 09:54 AM

I'd also love to know that if I lost money somebody would hand it in. Call me naive

Cherie 09-06-2013 09:56 AM

Naive.

My gran lost her bag in newcastle a few years back now. She was always carrying stupid amounts of cash on here, about 2k at any given time (85 year old woman too :bored: )

It got handed in, but they had taken half of the cash from it..I never understood why they took half then handed the rest in. Maybe they felt too guilty but were skint too.

I'd take it, without a doubt.

If you can't look after your own property then don't moan when someone else *looks after it* for you :D

Jesus. 09-06-2013 10:03 AM

I think I'd take it, keep hold of it for a while without spending anything, and see if I saw anything on the news about it's origins.

Some of you know this story already, but when in Auckland one night I walked past a cash machine that was making a funny noise. I looked at it and realised that there was a couple of thousands dollars sat there. I contemplated taking it but knew I'd feel guilty as ****, even if it was just the banks money so stood there for about 5 minutes to see if police would drive past to flag down (in the city they are always driving around). Then luckily the machine swallowed the money back in. When I finally got to the pub I told everyone and they all said I should have taken the money, but I'm still glad I didn't.

ATM's automatically know when money isn't removed straight away by the account holder. I've left a decent wedge in there before when slightly worse for ware. The money was taken, but the bank knew it had been a while, so just reimbursed me without issue.

There isn't really much in this world in terms of free money, but you genuinely turned down free money in that instant.

No because it might be a trap
