should councils pay for travellers sites?
what do you think?
It seems around these parts the council pays to maintain the sites, pays for the toilets, damages, pays for the runaway ponies, pays to get the children to school, they allegedly don't pay all the same taxes as everyone else, though Ive no idea how true that is, theyre gifted land on which to live on unlike everyone else, what of those who live on unauthorised land for years? generally their crime rates seem to be higher than amongst many other groups of people so am I discriminating? should we continue to fund their lifestyles? do the police avoid prosecuting them for fear of reprisals? etc |

if its a legal council owned site the travelers will be paying rent and council tax, travelers are not above the law |

the councils stopped proving legal sites in 1993 councils provide council houses that are lived in by people that are on benefits so are paying nothing travelers buy the land that they live on! but have not got planning permission to live there. if the council provided sites for them they would not have to set up illegal sites. what does a site consist of a toilet block and some hard standing much cheaper than a council house to build. |

You clearly don't know that different areas operate differently here the council provides and builds the toilets which get destroyed and the parts sold for scrap then rebuilt again and again....the children all get taken to school by private transport all paid for by the council...all at tax payers expense their horses and ponies run riot , over 100 found and returned at tax payers and police time and expense....running to tens of thousands of costs....would a non traveller get away with this week after week year after year without serving jaile time? nope. |
