Russia set to pass anti-gay law...

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...a-8652840.html

Quote:

Russia’s parliament will debate a controversial law on Tuesday that could see people arrested for behaviour that is deemed to promote homosexuality.

The bill provides for Russian citizens engaged in the “propaganda of non-traditional sexual orientation” to be fined, while foreigners could be arrested and immediately deported.
Quote:

Already there have been doubts about how to define propaganda, with a group of Communists in southern Russia complaining that Elton John’s stage outfits should be considered “homosexual propaganda”.

Tom4784 12-06-2013 11:14 AM

Another reason to hate their government.

Suze 12-06-2013 11:16 AM

How can signs of affection between a couple be promoting homosexuality? :conf: Utterly ridiculous, the World's surely gone mad.

Black Dagger 12-06-2013 11:21 AM

That is the last time I contemplate voting them in Eurovision :hmph:

Withano 12-06-2013 11:30 AM

This is just devolution, I can't work this out.
Religious countries doing it for religious reasons is bad but Russia is barely religious.
Shouldn't be happening anymore.

Kizzy 12-06-2013 12:22 PM

Well it's official the world is going backwards....

Marsh. 12-06-2013 12:44 PM

So, will homosexuality be illegal full stop or do they mean if you're open about it and "promote" it?

Either way it's backward, but that's just ridiculous.

I think the home goal the gay community are currently scoring is by being totally intolerant of opposing views....that intolerance emboldens the extreme anti gay elements....we need balance people on both sides have the right to an opinion....I noticed a chap on question time recently say that he thought civil partnerships were ok but not marriage. that's his opinion, yet he got the most hideous abuse online from intolerant pro gay activists. I think that's wrong. people have a right to their opinions but physical or verbal abuse is not acceptable.

Tom4784 12-06-2013 04:17 PM

Yes damn those intolerant gays, they should take being treated like second class citizens in their stride. They should accept that they are abominations and should never seek to get equal rights.

Two wrongs don't make a right.....all the gay community should do is stick to the principle of equal rights which the vast majority agree with, where they cross the line is by verbally and physically abusing people who have different opinions. this loses them credibility and the moral high ground.

the ruskies are a law unto themselves, but they will use the intolerance and violence and abuse of gay rights activists as propaganda to support their more vigilant stance on keeping homosexuality off the streets and away from the mainstream.

The gay community has to play it smarter.

in the meantime a lot of other groups are also getting angry by the excessive coverage being given to gay rights issues, when the gay community is already seen to have achieved equal rights across the board in the UK....whereas other groups discriminated against in a far harsher more profound way such as the disabled seem to be getting way less coverage yet are suffering far more at present with the UK cutbacks and ongoing discrimination across the board

this sounds like a backwards step for Russia to take, I don't really understand the need for such intolerance, such a waste of energy really.

It's not, though. We've just had gay marriage legalised in at least 12 US states and other countries are adopting sensible approaches, including our own (I hope anyway). Russia's always been a backwards, homophobic nation. This is just one of their retarded government rules, so it's backwards for them. By and large, things are looking much more positive and we're moving forward.

The world was much worse than this for homophobia.

no one gets worse discrimination than the disabled , its time to refocus on them imho

Hilarious that 'communists' are promoting a law that oppresses a group of society.

How such a negligible and corrupt joke of a government still manages to operate in this state amazes me.

letmein 11-07-2013 02:01 PM

Yes, let's be tolerant of the intolerant!

Livia 11-07-2013 02:08 PM

From the country that gave us Communism... another big idea that won't work.

letmein 11-07-2013 02:10 PM

Russia is a joke.

That is up there with your most bizarre contributions to the forum. It makes absolutely no sense. Gay people aren't really asking for anything other than equal rights, and if people are denying them their rights (through bigotry, religious indoctrination etc), then they have every right to make themselves heard.

Who is discriminating against disabled people in the same way bigots do against gay people? Stop disabled marriages, and promoting the disabled lifestyle. You have to get off that wheel chair and crawl, because otherwise all the "able bodied" people will experimenting with disabilities.
