It was filmed as it went down on the Plastic Site.

Ban the Evil Laterns

I don't know why they're legal in the first place... it's essentially the same as setting fire to a place miles away. And really lethal to cattle, too.

plus they aren't that pretty.

Ahh I remember when one of those was in the sky round here and me and gav were pissed and convinced ourselves that it was either a UFO or a plane on fire about to crash :joker:

Shaun 01-07-2013 05:44 PM

there's no video of the lantern actually landing there though. On that article anyway.

A Chinese lantern landed on a stable near here a couple of years ago and two horses died in the fire. They're bloody lethal.

Ninastar 01-07-2013 08:45 PM

I'm sorry but I find the idea that a small Chinese lantern could start a fire of this magnitude a little hard to believe. It's a good excuse though but the term inside job or Insurance job springs to mind .

Who knows they may have used the cover of Chinese lanterns but seriously this was probably a well planned insurance job.

You think a tiny flame can't start a big blaze? Really?

After the fire at the stable I referred to a few posts back, the Fire Brigade found the wire from the lantern in the burned out building. Also, Richard Bacon MP raised the subject of Chinese Lanterns at PMQ a couple of years ago after several farmers in East Anglia had their crops destroyed by fires caused by Chinese lanterns.
