Sainsburys till women refused to serve woman customer - as she was on the phone

http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/...21_634x490.jpg
"Jo Clarke (above), 26, was in the queue
at her local Sainsbury's,
in Crayford, south-east London,
when the checkout
assistant refused to help her because
she was on her phone"

[Miss Clarke added: ‘There was no one behind me in the queue,
it was quite quiet and I just phoned my brother
to quickly tell him I was about to leave. He was waiting,
so I just gave him a quick call.
I couldn’t believe how rude she was.’]

As long as she could Pay
whats the problem?

Life In The City.

Sorry she is the rude one. It is the height of bad manners to make a telephone call while you are being served.

Marc 03-07-2013 08:24 AM

I always scanned things really fast when people were on their phone so they got flustered :nono: it's so bloody rude to be on their phone

Jake. 03-07-2013 08:30 AM

Well it's her own bloody fault

Agree with this.

Also rude as **** when shop workers natter on to the person they are serving, even long after the person has paid..making themselves take ages to serve you. Happened to me yesterday :bored:

Suze 03-07-2013 09:08 AM

How hard was it for that customer to ring her brother either before she reached the till, or just after she had paid. I agree about the chatting after the serving, Vicky, it is really annoying. If it is a quick minute of chat I am not bothered, but a few times they just chat like they are oblivious to customers waiting to be served at counters or at checkouts.

Agree with both of these, it's the height of ignorance, more so in this womans case cos she was the one who actually made the call, she wasn't even answering it. Could she not have waited till she was finished at the checkout?

Oh or they continue to chat as they're serving you, this really pisses me off especially if I need to ask for something behind the counter as well as what I put on the counter, and you have to interrupt them to ask, it's such bad customer service and so bloody rude as well

Marc 03-07-2013 09:23 AM

PEOPLE NEED SLAPPING

ahh

Me. I Am Salman 03-07-2013 09:26 AM

Idiot checkout assistant, she should have just done her job properly.

Roy Mars III 03-07-2013 09:28 AM

I don't see the big deal if the customer is on the phone. Sure it's probably rude, but an over reaction to refuse to serve her.

There would be a problem if it was the other way around though

This happens in our corner shop all the time. The guys who work there are literally constantly on their phones, I dont know how they have so much credit, or so many people to talk to...if you ask for a gas or electric topup (that requires 2 hands) they actually sigh at you and give you the evil eye.

Agree.

I don't see an issue with the customer being on the phone. Its rude but not rude enough to refuse to serve someone. You go to shops in other countries and the assistant will ignore you and carry on chatting to their friends.

Cherie 03-07-2013 09:38 AM

Apart from being rude if you are in queue behind a person on their phone it slows them right down, as they are packing with one hand. Also the person on the till has to scan so many items per minute or they are hauled over the coals by their manager, so from their point of view they will be getting it in the neck for this persons rudeness. I knew someone who works at Tesco and they get hauled in regularly for not reaching their targets.

Moviefan 03-07-2013 09:46 AM

I work on Till and I do sever people when they on their phones.

It dose not bother me at all and I don't think it's rude at all.

Hopefully she'll learn from this. Hopefully everybody will learn from this!!!!!!!!

Making a quick call for your brother to pick you up is different to having a full on conversation.

Marc 03-07-2013 09:53 AM

I hope she's jailed

LemonJam 03-07-2013 10:16 AM

As someone who's worked on tills for almost 5 years I can honestly say I've never cared if someone's on the phone or not.

zotler. 03-07-2013 10:19 AM

When I am serving people at work and they're on the phone, I just don't try and talk to them, lol. I quietly ask them for their advantage card and tell them to pay and let them go. *Shrugs*

Saves me the small talk, yo. IDGAF if they're on the phone.

What an ignorant bitch. Sadly, some people think that people who work in shops are beneath them and that they don't owe them any kind of courtesy. And I hear Sainsbury's apologised and sent her some vouchers! Disgraceful. They should have told her to get some manners.

Exactly.

How many people would sit wait in a queue for their GP, and then make a call once they are sat in the chair in from of him/her.
