I think you're right... they are a weak bunch. The men and the women. None of them have real confidence, only learned / affected confidence.

I think you'd struggle to find a LESS alpha male than Daley, although he would love to be. He actually came into the house under-confident... since getting a sniff of Hazel he's started to think of himself as an "alpha male" and is making an absolute tit of himself playing up to it. Cas in point: he crumbled vs Dexter. Teeny, skinny Dexter.
When Dex and Hazel were chatting in the tree house, Daley spent about 10 minutes psyching himself up to get his fake-alpha on... then marched into the garden like a peacock with a ridiculous, swaggering, blustering act presumably intended to intimidate Dexter. Dexter - who clearly has at least a basic understanding of social psychology - knew exactly what he was doing, and made a point of leaving the treehouse to go down and stand face-to-face with Daley. As soon as he did that, Daley crumbled, lost his nerve, and stopped trying to dominate the situation. Utter failure.
Verdict: Dexter won an "alpha" contest against Daley, and Dexter isn't even naturally that way inclined. He's just read a lot about it and knows "what to do", through learning and practice.
If you need more evidence... see the interview with Daley's (ex)girlfriend on Bots. "I don't recognize him, none of his friends recognize him". The quiet Daley is the "real" Daley. Faux-Alpha Daley is a little boy who got his ego stroked by a girl who knows exactly how to stroke an ego, and immediately grew too big for his boots. And boxers. :blush2:
