Greatest girlband of all time?
Poll coming
|
How could I forget Booty Luv?!
|
Destinys Child, The Supremes and The Ronettes
|
Eternal, Bananarama, The Ronettes and All Saints.
Not on the list - The Bangles |
The Supremes for me, a long list of totally class records.
Also one that wasn't on, I think it was an all girl group,The Crystals if only for 'Then he kissed me' and 'He's a rebel'. |
The Supremes
Spice Girls winning though? None of them bar Mel C had any talent :bored: |
They were a phenomenon though - they were pretty ****e musically all things considered but they brought on so many waves of change along with them and there's no denying they were pioneers in their field. Girl bands (as we know them now) just weren't a thing before the Spice Girls brought about a change. They led a British invasion of America, they made feminism and 'girl power' cool, they were style icons, idols to women and girls alike etc... so I think all of those things contribute to what makes them among the greatest girlbands of all time. Musically, they're nowhere near the top, but when you take cultural impact and all these other factors into account, they're juggernauts. Their sales were insane.

All Saints mainly because they have the best girlgroup song of all time (Pure Shores)
and Bewitched for Cest La Vie and then you have to vote for Spice Girls |
I'm just voting the older ones because the new ones are terrible and can't hold a candle to the likes of The Supremes or The Ronettes
|
My pet hate with girl groups is when there is a noticeably weaker vocalist/vocalists. I get it with boy bands too (hi Louis from One Direction), but it's more noticeable in girl groups I think because the industry standard seems to be to include a vocal powerhouse to take the lead vocals and then staff the group with filler... obviously those girls are usually the prettiest ones and that's why they're there, but when it gets to the point where they either don't sing on songs or they have two lines maximum, you wonder why they're even there...

I like more than one..
TLC were amazing, so were All Saints in their day. |
Martha and the Vandella's, The Ronettes and The Supremes are the best imo but i picked some others just because i like them
|
Spice Girls, obviously.
Nobody else even comes close to their level of success and mania. |
Spice Girls
But ah, didn't know this was multiple choice. Would've also went with TLC, The Supremes and Destiny's Child. |
TLC, Bananarama & Pointer Sisters.
Plus Fuzzbox Salt & Pepa Sister Sledge |
Supremes and Salt + Pepa
|
TUNE!!!! TUNE!!!!!! "Maybe next time you'll give your woman a little respect". How apt? |
Ahh Visage mentioned We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It. One of my favourites during my Teenage years. TLC & SWV were, and still are, favorites of mine. There are so many others though:
The Shirelles The Shangri-Las The Chiffons The Crystals The Emotions L7 7669 The latter two would never come under "the greatest" though... Bananarama are great, but I would have to pick The Supremes from the list. Their music is timeless and still great to listen to today. Generations to come will still be introduced to their music and it will go on being loved and appreciated. |
The Nolans.... obviously :suspect:
really don't see how they aren't winning |

But seriously, En Vogue are the absolute **** :worship:
|
My favourites: Girls Aloud, All Saints + t.A.T.u.
Spice Girls are obviously deemed the "greatest" however. |
